Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 26, 2012 Super User Posted October 26, 2012 High surf, foamy and stained water bring in the snook, especially this time of the year when a lot of bait is present. Quite a few were caught the other day, sad to say some of my locations are closed due to the weather. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Its a BAAAD man that fights a hurricane to go fishin... that being said... your insanity paid off! Great job as always Sir. NGaHB Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 26, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2012 Don't give me more credit than I deserve, that fish was caught Tuesday, windy yes, but very fishable. Today the jetties and piers are closed, it will be a freshwater day. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted October 26, 2012 Super User Posted October 26, 2012 A beauty for sure, SirSnook! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 26, 2012 Super User Posted October 26, 2012 That's a respectable fish, nice work. Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Great fish! Is that the same pier/bridge you caught that big Cuda on(the barracuda in your gallery)? Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted October 27, 2012 Super User Posted October 27, 2012 Sweet fish man! Good job. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2012 Great fish! Is that the same pier/bridge you caught that big Cuda on(the barracuda in your gallery)? Yes it is, we have 2 jetties there and both have been reconstructed within the last 2 years. Prior those jetties were 2' lower and no guard rail, just flimsy wire cable, we much preferred it. As you can see from this photo taken yesterday, it can rough here, the new guard rail helps to prevent people and gear getting washed into the the water. What the purpose of 4'x8' steel plates bolted into the cement is for I don't know, but one exploded yesterday, no telling how long this jettie is going to be closed now. FYI, the piers around here are at least 2-3x times higher, I never fish them , it's too high for my taste. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 27, 2012 Super User Posted October 27, 2012 Way to go, Stu. I could cook up quite a few Snook nuggets outta her. Have the Pompano/Bluefish arrived? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2012 I've caught a few small pomps by accident in the surf, I think the blue fish may have come and gone, caught a bunch about 10 days ago. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 28, 2012 Super User Posted October 28, 2012 Ahh, they'll be back. Hopefully, I haven't missed the best part of the year for surf fishing. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 28, 2012 Super User Posted October 28, 2012 I really need to get back into surf fishing. Haven't done it in eons. I used to love going out behind the old Marine Stadium down south before it was closed off. Had some great times out there. Great lookin fish, Stu. Bet that was a fun fight. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 28, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 28, 2012 Snook never disappointment me, they will go ariel on occasion too, one of the reasons I enjoy them so much. In South Florida we get hoards of people from the NE corridor (with all their Van Staals of course) and the first word out of their mouths is stripers.........that is until they catch a snook, jack or tarpon, stripers are never mentioned again, lol. If only we had redfish in Palm Beach County, that said we had a rare occurrence about a week ago, 4 over slots were caught off the Boynton jettie on bait. 2 Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted October 28, 2012 Super User Posted October 28, 2012 That's it. I've decided to rent a nice house out here for a month. Won't be next year as I'm getting married, but the year after, it's on. Quote

LOL... trust me SirSnook after college if an oppurtunity arises south florida will be my destination... That is also how I lost my 2 snook, they shot out of the water and spit the hook... I can't remember one of my stripers that have gone tatally ariel, not even on a topwater hit. For now since I really have no choice I will continue fishing for stipers and for the snook, jacks, etc on vacations. And I dont have a Van Staal LOL!!!! This might have been the last saltwater fishing weekend for me. My dad and I landed 18 stripers ranging from 15" to 31" being the largest.... Im thinking the hurricane will just turn the fish off and send them on there way south of me... Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 29, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 29, 2012 You're killing the stripers up there, good job. Florida is a great place, but don't come here just for the fishing, go where you have the best opportunity for you future, you can catch fish anyplace. Louisiana has some really great fishing too. NEjitterbugger Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Yeah Lousiana holds some monster reds.... My friend's brother lives on the texas lousiana border and has caught some moster redfish and some nice flounder as well. He hasn't gotten to fish much lately because of work... Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 30, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 30, 2012 Last year my son inlaw took a trip to Venice, La. Sent me the pics, awesome redfish, amberjacks and yellow fin tuna. That's a place I need to go. Quote
