SmallieFisher17 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Hey guys! I'm new to this forum, and I was wondering if any of you have had any luck catching smallies around State College, PA. I'm a student at PSU who doesn't have a vehicle up here, but I've been trying to see if the local buses around town can get me close to any smallie streams. I've done a lot of poking around on the internet and found creeks such as Penns Creek, Bald Eagle Creek, as well as a ton of info on the Juniata and Susquehanna Rivers, but I'm looking for something slightly closer (if possible). When googling "Smallmouth streams state college" or something to that affect, I actually found a post on this forum from 2009 that lead me here. I'm not looking for exact spots or anything, just stream suggestions. Thanks! SmallieFisher17 Quote
robdob Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 there is a lake about 10 minutes from state college that has some real big smallmouth in it. not a numbers type of lake but you can almost always catch a few and you do get the occasional giant. also has stocked fingerling brown trout in the fall. no boats allowed though... pm me if you want to know more , not a lot of people fish it so i don't want to talk about it openly on a forum. central.PA.bass Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 bald eagle creek has smallies in it as well as sayers dam. Join Penn States bass club and you wont need a car as they have get togethers and go fishing a lot (at least when I used to fish it). Look them up on facebook. They have a page and I am sure there are people in the bass club that would love a partner to fish with! Quote
jhoffman Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Bald eagle smallies fish best from the bridge in milesburg up. It gets SUPER LOW. I brought a 4lb fish out of there two summers ago on a pop r at dusk. Quote
SmallieFisher17 Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 Thanks for the help guys! School has been kicking my butt so I haven't been on here for a while. Ill definitely check out the PSU Bass Club and plan on going to Bald Eagle Creek when it starts warming up. I have a lot of new baits and rigs to try! Quote
jhoffman Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 I live right on the creek so if you wanna know what it looks like before making a trip drop me a line. When the smallie action really fires up its almost certain youre going to have to go topwater with exception of a few pools. Most of it will be ankle deep at best. Quote
