Bassego Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Recently i had a guide tip insert fall out on my Abu Vendetta rod and I will be getting a new rod under warranty because of it. My question is can i get an insert and put it into the guide or would i have to replace the guide itself. I would still like to use this rod and i'm afraid to use it now since it frays the line without the insert. Any help is greatly appreciated. -Chris Quote
Super User Alpster Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 If it is a tip, they are very easy to replace, but if it's a running guide it will have to be re-wrapped. Ronnie Quote

Ronnie Luckily is it just the tip and thanks for the quick response. What is the easiest way to get the tip off the rod? I will most likely get some pliers and pull it off. -Chris Quote
Super User Alpster Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 Heat the metal of the rod tip (not the rod blank) with a match or lighter. Apply steady pressure puling. When the old epoxy gets warm enough it will come right off. Carefull not to overheat. A blowdryer can work well too. Sand the left over glue off with fine sandpaper. Get a tip repair kit from WalMart. It will have everything you need to glue on a new tip. Ronnie Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Just to be clear, when Ronnie says apply steady pressure, it means NO TWISTING. Replacing the guide or tip is always the correct fix for a missing insert. Quote
