XPainInthebassX Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I want to start using this bait for smallies. What's the best way to rig for fishing reserviors with rocky bottoms from 1-15ft of water. And what's everyone's go to color? I guess I can't go wrong with green pumpkin. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 Texas Rig: Spinning tackle/ #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Gamakatsu #2 Offset Worm Hook 1/8 oz bullet weight, unpegged Colors: Green Pumpkin; Watermelon/ Red Flake; Watermelon Meat; Black/ Blue Flakes 1 Quote
XPainInthebassX Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 Do you use soft or regular hybrid for spinning? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 26, 2012 Super User Posted October 26, 2012 I use original Hybrid. The purple smoke blends well in stained water; green is virtually invisible in gin clear water and clear looks cool on silver reels! Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted October 26, 2012 Super User Posted October 26, 2012 Rig it like Roadwarrior said, or I use it as a jig trailer on smaller jigs. I like the summer craw color the best. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I use them on a shaky head or a jig trailer. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 27, 2012 Super User Posted October 27, 2012 I've had good results using them on 3/0 size swimbait hooks (1/8 oz. belly weighted) with the spring retainer at the eye. And I wouldn't think about using the "Smallie Beaver" size.....they like the standard size Beaver much better! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 28, 2012 Super User Posted October 28, 2012 For smallies, I'd start with a light (1/8oz) Tungsten weight, and Tx rig it on a 3/0 hook. I also like it with a 2/0 keel-weighted hook, and as a jig trailer. When the fish are keying in on bait fish, I'll throw a Pearl Baby Craw on a sexy shad swim jig, and knock 'em out! I have caught plenty of smallies with it on a drop shot, too. Quote
basscrusher Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 If snagging grass isn't an issue, I like a 1/4 oz jighead, exposed hook. Otherwise, I like a Slider Pro in 3/16 or 1/4 oz. Quote
