Lake Ida (Delray)

Has anyone fished there recently? Are the bass/peas/ clown knife fish biting? Figured I may try over there next week, early or late to avoid the boaters/skiiers

I want to catch one of these things

Wow!! Another exotic. I have only seen those fish on Discovery Channel.

Congress entrance, all the way back to the canal and fish near I-95, use live bait. Another place I have heard is off Southern Blvd, mile 21 or something like that.

they are everywhere in lake ida. for years i thought they were small tarpon until a local guide clued me in. never caught one. im sure live bait would work.

Small crankbaits will work too. They are more active in low light conditions or if its sunny try fishing in the shade(bridges.etc). I have caught a few of them in Lake Pine(Cloud Lake, WPB Airport). Initial strike is good but they do not fight hard for very long. They do jump though! You can observe dozens of large ones rolling the surface gulping air in the summer months. Deeper cooler water seems to be better too, main canals under bridges would be your best bet. Just another unfortunate exotic though.

Thanks fellas. I'll def use live bait as indicated most places. I'll use my spinning rod with 10lb braid. It's been a blast catching peas with it.

I haven't been to lake Ida in a while but I have caught many peacocks there, don't know what's it like after the freeze. My best success for them (fishing from shore) is to park in the very first lot off lake Ida Rd, and fish it back towards the bridge, most of the time it has been weedless fishing.

I'm just starting to do some freshwater fishing, the ocean is kind of off limits for a while, I did find a very productive spot yesterday morning in the ICW. I have had little success freshwater fishing, the ponds and canals near my home have been very sub par, but my last few snakehead attempts have been terrible, been all over coral springs. Dropping my wife off at the airport around noon tomorrow, give coral springs another shot on my way home.

Before the freeze, there were quite a few peacock in that canal running west, the one just north of the ramp that runs south of the golf course. They would congregate near the bridges or any cut or drain. The freeze wiped that out. I have heard some reports of peacocks being caught in the E-4 connector canal up by the C-16.
