sengx Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 So I just bought 7 x raps for $30 free shipping off ebay but realized too late they were only 2 1/2 inches long. Now I'm going INSANE realizing they may be too small. But would they work better or the same as longer versions of the lures? http://www.ebay.com/itm/251173484750?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648 Quote
sengx Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 Scroll down on the ebay Page to see the lures Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 The xr-6 is a little small for me. I prefer the xr-10, but that doesnt mean they wont catch fish. Try them out, I bet they'll be fine. Quote
bass1980 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 They should still catch fish if used correctly. However I think those size are more for walleyes. They use them often trolling at 5-8 ft depths I think. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 I have used the smaller versions for smallies and largemouth and had good success. One thing i have noticed about the X-rap is that it does not suspend perfectly but is more of a slow rise. I changed out the hooks to a heavier model and now they suspend perfectly. Good baits, you will enjoy using them Quote
EvanT123 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I've bought from the same seller and have had pretty good success with smallmouth using that size. Quote
shootermcbob Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I have caught four fish the last two days on xr-6 size x-raps,,,tried the xr-8 size as well as some bigger jerkbaits... LC pointer 100, spro mcstick, and smithwick rogue...downsized to the smaller xr-6 and caught fish...since I was bank fishing and hadn't moved, it is logical to think the fish just wanted a smaller lure. sengx Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 Oh okay nice, I was super worried the size would affect the fishing, as in nothing would bite, but if they have proven to work then I guess it wasn't a waste after all. And I do occasionally go for walleyes so the smaller x raps may be better. But thanks for all the input, I appreciate it Quote
Super User deep Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 There's no such thing as too small or too big a lure IMO. If the bass are feeding on 2" baitfish, I won't try to catch them with a 10" bait; and viceversa, 2 Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 25, 2012 Super User Posted October 25, 2012 I prefer the size 8 X raps and the size 10 for bass. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 26, 2012 Global Moderator Posted October 26, 2012 I have a couple of the XR6's and have had great luck on all sizes of bass with them along with lots of crappie and white bass. The fish great on spinning gear with 8lb test. Quote

At least in my experience, though it will usually be smaller fish. U can catch big fish on small baits too don't get me wrong, but u will get a lot more numbers in general with smaller baits Quote
CoBass Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Small baits don't necessarily mean small fish. I have a fishing buddy who only fishes ultralight with tiny little baits. Dude catches a lot of big fish. Just last year he caught the state record smallie on a little 2 inch jerkbait that he orders from Japan. The really amazing thing about it is he catches almost all of his big fish from shore, including the record smallie. 1 Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted November 2, 2012 Super User Posted November 2, 2012 Excellent small pond bait. One of my go to's for my small pond box. These baits will also catch crappie. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted November 4, 2012 Super User Posted November 4, 2012 Superb little baits for early in the year, or late in the year when forage is around that size. They also work on smalljaws from start to finish through the year, no doubt about it. Quote
basshole8190 Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 i have several of them. i troll with them almost exclusively everything in the lake eats them spots, largemouths, catfish, gills. Quote
