I use the Strike King bluegill swim jig. I trail it with the back end of a swimsenko in black or watermelon-gold-black (323)

Rage tail menace in bluegill!

I like a Rage Tail Baby Craw on mine in Watermelon Red, just a hint of chartreuse JJ's on the tips of the claws. I also like the Menace or single tail Grub on there.

Northstar all the way. There "new gill" is one of my favorites.

NorthStar "New gill" has been by far the best producing swim jig for this year.

I would put another vote in for the New Gill color of the NorthStar swim jig

I've been having success in the weeds with it paired with a green pumpkin havoc twin tail

Northstar makes a great swim jig and I've also had success with the KVD swim jig in the bluegill color. It looks great and is easily available.

Whatever the jig, I like using a 3.5" Yum Money Minnow trailer in the Bluegill color when I'm swimming a jig.

Northstar's Kentucky Bluegrass or Bama craw both with a rage tail menace in GP. These 2 are the only sunfish/bluegill imitators I use and have worked like you wouldn't believe. Sometimes I use a craw but 8 times out of 10 its the menace.

Those are the flip and swims by the way. For northstar swim jigs I use bull gill or new gill but not with as much success as the flip and swims. Its probably more of a confidence thing though. I would never go out without a flip n swim tied on!

I lived in Wisconsin, birthplace is swim jigs, for several years. A good swim jig is typically 1/4-3/8 oz, has a light or regular wire hook (for easy Hookups), a bullet shaped head, 12 strand MAX weed guard.

It's designed to be thrown in the shallow, weedy lakes on 30-40# braid, though old schoolers like 14-17lb mono.

1/4 oz, tipped with a 4-5" single tail grub, is then slow rolled, meant to bump into every stem of grass. That's what causes the reaction. The light weight is also essential because its also thrown over top of slop like a frog with unbelievable success.

I like Brovarney baits swim jigs. Affordable, best components, and they just plain catch fish.

I would second northstar jigs but my actual favorite is the revenge swim jig with a skinny dipper trailer. It is extremely realistic and fishes true without rolling on its sides. Finish is pretty durable. Used around rocks and weeds I haven't issues with the finish coming off either. I have been busing the same jig since June!

It was a beast for sure, I've caught Bull Red that did not fight like this thing... Pretty good fish for a public lake in Mississippi. She went 8lbs 7oz

On another note I have never bought into the Rage Tail hype before but after my last two outings pitching a jig it will be hard for me to throw a jig with any other trailer...

I just got into using swim jigs in the past year or so, and so far I like the results. I am still a noob with them, but what has worked for me has been the SK Tour grade swim jigs in the bluegill pattern with a green pumpkin rage tail grub as a trailer. Recently I have been farting around with downsizing swim jigs, trimming the skirt back on the TG swim jig and cutting an inch off the rage grub really didn't do it for me, but I found a SK bitsy jig with a 3" GYCB grub make a great small profile swim jig when for some reason they won't grab the bigger jig/grub.
