Just One More Question About Yo-Zuri Hybrid...

All I want to know about this stuff is this: Is the Ultra Soft much more manageable than the regular Hybrid? I know Ultra Soft was created for spinning gear, but I know others use this stuff on casting reels. I use Trilene XL 12# on my bcs now, and I want line that is close to it's manageability. So again, will the Ultra Soft be the way to go??

I'm guessing that there is a specific reason you want to switch from the Trilene XL. If the manageability of the line is your biggest concern, no, the Ultra Soft in the same pound test won't come close to the XL. If you were to drop to 10lb. and use a line conditioner you would likely get similar results. Personally, unless sensitivity is your reason for switching, I'd stick with the XL. I went back to it for cranking, spinnerbaits and top water after trying out a number of different lines. The only way you'll know for sure is to try it for yourself. What works for me may not be your cup of tea.

I just don't like how mono absorbs water. And you're right. I think 10# in the hybrid would be the way to go treated with some KVD. I just want a decently manageable line that doesn't absorb water. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate any and all help I can get deciding on what to switch to.

Here is my input, take it or leave it. I've been fishing for over 40 years, and I've used every type of line you can think of and some you never heard of, as I'm pretty sure your a MUCH younger person than myself.

Trilene XL has been around forever, and is as good a line or better then any. It works equally as good on spinning reels as it does on baitcast gear. Trilene XT is great for baitcast gear as it is tougher and more abrasion resistant.

Braid, with or without a mono or flouro leader. This option will handle ALL your fishing needs other than cranking or topwater or spinner baits. For these I like mono.

Forget all the hoopla about lines absorbing water, and all the other foolishness associated with lines, and go catch fish.

People get way too hung up on what the Pros are using, and telling you to use... they get paid to tell you this, and make you run out to buy the newest and improved line. I catch as many fish as I ever have on the same line I've been using for 40+ years. There are WAY too many lines on the market today IMO.

If you need to use line conditioner on any line, it's not worth a dime.

Except for braid on a couple of rigs, I use YZ Ultra Soft on all of my reels, BC and spinning. It performs flawlessly. Line conditioner will help ANY line because it lubricates the line which makes it slide through the guides with less friction. It will also reduce backlash for the same (less friction) reason. Your milage may vary. JMHO

Buy a spool of Hybrid original and one Ultra Soft. Try them for yourself,

the cost is very low.

Geez....no one ever answered my question though RW. Why buy 2 spools of line without researching my purchase? No one has answered whether or not ultra soft is more manageable than regular. If they did, I wouldn't have asked again.

Okay, I'll try to be very specific based on years of personal experience with both Hybrid

original and Ultra Soft:

#6 Hybrid original is strong and very manageable on spinning tackle. Heavier line will be

progressively "springy" as you increase the size. I would NOT recommend anything higher

than #8 on spinning gear. KVD Line & Lure Conditioner dramatically improves performance.

Some people like the Ultra Soft better, but I do not think it is more manageable and I don't

like the colors!

My experience with #12 Ultra Soft has been limited, but it seemed to have more memory than

original Hybrid, especially in cold weather. I see no advantage in this line vs original Hybrid.

Still, you may like it better. Alpster prefers the Ultra Soft and that is a huge endorsement as far

as I'm concerned. I have VERY high regard for his opinions.

Regarding XL

The line is very manageable no doubt. However, the line is stretchy, has low abrasion

resistance and no enhanced strength, 6 is 6#, not 11.9 lb breaking strength.

What color do you recommend? Is yo zuri less visible than mono?

Most of the water I fish is stained, the Tennessee River and local ponds.

The best blend in this water is purple smoke. In gin clear water like you

find on the White River reservoirs, green is virtually invisible. However,

it's really not that critical...I fish clear too because it looks cool on silver

reels!

I have personally found the original hybrid to more manageable on baitcasters, while I prefer the ultra soft on spinning reels. I have no scientific evidence or case studies to back up my claim, but I backlash less often ...same equipment...with the original hybrid on baitcasters. Just my humble opinion.

I would also recommend that you get a spool of each to try, your results may vary. The line is inexpensive.

I'll stay on point and second RW's comments. Stick to Hybrid. Colors are better (my opinion, obviously not everyone's). UltraSoft tends toward the milky side and I just didn't like it. While I use P-Line Floroclear and love it, I also like Hybrid in camo green. Just ordered a spool of 10lb off eBay.

As well, I'm a braid mainliner and use P-Line or YZ Hybrid as leader. This way I don't have to deal with line jumping off the spinning spool, etc. Only Smoke color I've tried is in 4lb test but I didn't find it as reliable as green or clear.
