aceman387 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I could use a good rain suit and noticed in the bps classic sale paper they have the pro qualifier suits on sale. are these a decent suit? as far as the coat ,jacket better or parka better? from the picture in the sale paper they look kind of bulky and warm i was wondering are suits like this just a spring and fall thing or some of you guys wear them all year in the rain. MtCarmelTriton20x Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I personally wear the BPS 100MPH suit but my fishing partner has the Pro Qualifier. They are both good suits but yes they are warm. I have a cheap thin rainsuit I use in the hot summer months because I really don't care if it leaks a little when it's 95 outside. As for the jacket or parka, I like the parka better because it doesn't ride up when I am running from spot to spot in a seated position. You may have a different opinion because it is a little bulky but I don't think you will be unsatisfied with that suit. Quote
aceman387 Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 I should have worded it better ,come mid summer i throw on a cheap columbia set myself . from the picture they look heavy duty ,hopefully heavy duty waterproof. Quote
whoopbazz Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I have a BPS HPR suit...which I am very happy with. It's not too heavy for summer t-storms. Quote
lsufan334 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I have a pro qualifier and LOVE IT. I used it 3 weeks ago @ Lake Eufaula and it was around 45 degrees and slight rain @ take off and i had a few layers on (hoodie, long sleeve, jeans) and i fished comfortable all day. I love it. Havent really used it during summer yet. They dont seem very heavy at all and i have the bibs and parka i would suggest the parka just for more coverage i guess. But i think it would be ok to wear during early summer rain showers. Best $$$ for fishing i have ever spent. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 24, 2010 Super User Posted February 24, 2010 I have a Cabelas guidewear suit. I think it is very comparable to the BPS suits mentioned. I went with the guidewear primarily because it had fewer logos on its. I don't like serving in the role of unpaid human billboard. I had the parka for a couple of years, then I went to shorter jacket style. The jacket is just easier for me to move around in than the parka was. The longer jacket is now my winter coat, and I don't even use the zip in liner most of the time. Now, for summer fishing, it's the frog toggs. Occasionally, they go on sale. I think my last set cost me $30. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 24, 2010 Super User Posted February 24, 2010 Wear it year round. Haven't found it to be hot in the summer. Cuts the wind in the winter. Layers are a must. Quote
Bigdawg48 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 The PQ is a decent suit. It is probably not to the level of the 100mph but still a good suit. I wear the 100mph suit and it is money, no matter when you wear it. It's breathable and I never have any problems in summer or winter. One of the reasons I sprung for the money. Quote
zelmo Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I am definatley going to pick up the PQ bibs during the sale, but I am still undecided on the jacket. I have a Columbia 3-in-1 with their Omni-Tech, but I have never been out in the rain with it so I don't know if it will be good enough. I have a concern that it will leak around the zippers. When I look at the PQ jacket the upper chest pockets don't have a storm flap either - will they leak? Can anyone tell me how much of a step up the PQ jacket is to the Columbia? Quote
Big Bass Chaser Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Cheap solution : Why not go to a snowboarding spring sale where they are selling almost the exact same gear under a different name for 1/4 the cost? Works just as good as any of the expensive fishing specific stuff. Quote

Those zippers are rubberized on the PQ and do not leak. Quote
cwen Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I have it and love it here it in NJ in early spring. Gets hot in the suit in summer. I got it last year at the classic. I use it in the winter though when shoveling. Very warm. Also good in the early seasson regardless of rain. Quote

I have the columbia jacket it is good when it's just drizzling but if you're caught in a storm you might as well have nothing on. Soaked to the bone! Quote
zelmo Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I got to the the store yesterday and I am glad I did - they only had one large in any color. (And only one medium.) I guess they don't want to sell many during the sale. I had looked at them on the hangers before but had never tried them on. The leg zips really make getting the bibs on easy! The fly zip makes so much sense I can't believe others don't use it. As soon as I got the jacket on I could tell there was no comparison to the Columbia jacket if the purpose was to stay dry. The only thing I still have a question about is the hood. The fact that it is not detachable is what had kept me from buying it before. After I put the jacket on I can see how necessary that arrangement is for keeping you dry so I sucked it up and bought it anyway. Is there any trick to getting it to lay flat when not using it? Quote
