So I finally bit the bullet and decided to try out a hollow bodied frog.  I've never thrown one, much less held one.  I've never really had an urge to.  I picked up one a couple of days ago and will hopefully try it out in the morning.  What retrieves and all do you guys like using with them?  Walking it back, short twitches and pops?  Just looking for a little info on my first morning out with one.

Short twitches and also moving it just enough to get the legs moving. Slowly retrieves over cover, and LONG pauses around irregularities and edges are the way to go.

I twitch them over grass or algae mats. Sometimes I throw them under  overhanging branches too.

The only places I do well with hollow frogs are over emerging vegetation but in those areas they can be lethal.

Three people, three similar answers....twitch and pause over pockets and holes.  Sounds like a plan to me.

I vary my retrieve speeds until I figure out what the fish want.  Last summer I had a lot of success twitching it as fast as I could.  I love the Spro Jr.  Let us know how you do.

Fast, slow, pop, twitch-twitch-pause, walk the dog...... Let the fish tell you how they want it.

I'll drink to that.

I normally start with a "twitch-twitch-pause" retrieve,

but there's really no telling which retrieve is going to work best.

What's more, sometimes the winning retrieve will only last about 20 minutes ;)

Amen brother ;D

Use a lot of slack in the line and a very sharp downward or down/side twitch with the wrist to make it walk. You can also chug it,that is just kind of pop/scoot it forward making the body rock and use pauses.Speed and cadence are key just like any topwater and you gotta play with it.Fun bait to fish but won't always draw very many strikes but when they are on it you better be throwing it. One of my favorite things too do is skip it under overhanging trees and brush, docks, pontoon boats, and put it in impossible spots.Sometimes you may get an instant reaction bite.

For heavier vegetation you may want to try the larger sizes since it will cause more diturbance. I would also truly reccomend the bronzeye poppers. That bait is a true winner and will really shine during the postspawn coming up.
