Farmers Almanac?

Anybody ever take a look at the free best fishing times on farmers almanac?. i know weather.com tells you best fishing times for the day. Just wondering if you find it useful any thoughts?

Never looked at the farmers almanac but it seems like the weather.com charts are full of crap. Most of the time when they say the fishing is supposed to be excellent, I dont' even get a bite and when the fishing is supposed to be terrible, Ill be catching nice fish. Im not real expierienced though so it could just be me. Im starting to worry less about charts and worry more about just fishing.

yeah i dont bother with sometimes after a day of fishing ill check it out to see what it says and compare it to how i do..

Even though I don't put much into them, I still check them before I go out. I know there are some guys out there that swear by their charts.

I used to look at the Farmers' Almanac when it was free but since it costs a few bucks and the information is not that appealing to me any more I pass on the publication.

Moon phases and tide charts will serve you better along with weather reports and water temperatures.

I have a farmers almanac site bookmarked on my phone. I look at it, but its not always correct. Just use as a guide I guess.

I can usually only fish on the weekends so I never really look at it.

I read infisherman, bassmaster, and www.solunarforecast.com for all my fishing times, they are generally the same days but the times vary. the best in my opinion is later of the three. It seems the times are more accurate and gives the most info on moon phase. But like bankbeater said I might say hey I am going today or this weekend, check it out but regardless the time etc. I am going anyway. Plus you have to aknowledge that weather, clouds, pressure, fronts etc. play a part in your outcome for the day too. I have went out on days the calendars say should suck and killed them and then days that are supposed to be great at the time they say and skunked it. I don't read too much into them anymore, I go any day, pay attention to the current weather conditions and fish accordingly.

If you are trying to predict where and what to fish I would suggest using BASSGOLD. It costs a few bucks, but if you are fishing major bodies of water you can learn a lot from it. Especially if you add your own information in there and go back and see what worked and what didn't.

I have boiled it down to this; moon phase and gravity pull. If you simply watch where the moon is positioned for maximum and minimum gravity pull ans watch the activity of lake side animals, active up and about or nowhere to be seen and sleeping will tell you if predator fish like bass are active or not. Moon phase during the spawn cycle; pre spawn and spawn, maximum gravity turns on nearly every animal, including bass.

I like the moon at the horizon and over head. There isn't any way tp predict weather, it is what it is!

I prefer light wind and light rain and that doesn't occur very often where I fish.

Keep your eye on the barometer failing is good, rising is ok, peaked out high sucks, as does bottomed out low, and also other general wildlife activity. I am in the outdoors all the time, being a farmer and all, and almost with out fail, days I see alot of deer, rabbits, hawks, etc... moving and active fishing that day is much better than days I don't see much. Moon phases can be hit or miss, they play a big role in the spring, in the summer and fall I have seen them matter alot, to not mattering at all.

I use Farmers Almanac when I'm planning a night fishing trip. I look closely at the moon phase calender. What's important to me is what time the moon rises, sets, and what phase it's in. If I'm going night fishing (which I do often), then I look for the moon rise to be as close to sunset as possible, so we'll have moonlight most of the night. I also keep track of the full moons, as I've had some amazing fishing nights during or around the full moon.

Expanding a bit on what a couple others said:

If we happen to drive by a cow pasture on the way to the lake, we look very closely at what the cows are doing. If they are all laying down, you could be in for a tough day of fishing. If most of them are standing or moving around, you may be in for a good day of fishing. I can't say it's fact, but we've tested it several time and it seems to hold true.

yeah ill need to do some more research and start testing it out.. Ive done alittle in the past and got enough to know that 3 days before/ after the new moom as welll 3 days before/ after the full moon is the best time of the month to go other that im kinda lost... but im going to start checking out the cows up the road from my house before i go and ill let you know what i come up with... this am i went out around 9 fished for 2 hrs and got zip not evening a bite but the birds were out looking at the coves for bait fish and i saw 5 turtles sitting on logs thought it was going to be a god day ill try later around 3 though
