Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Seattle has a great defense. I would watch them this year as often as I could or st least flip back and forth between them and the eagles. I think they can seriously put a hurting on the falcons. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I was 3 for 4 this weekend, I really thought Cincy would beat Houston, especially after they way Houston had played the last month of the season. No surprises, for me, with the way the way the Baltimore, and Greenbay games went. I was 50/50 on Washington/Seattle, but I did think Seattle, being the hottest team (next to Wash and Denver.) going into the Playoffs would win, RGIII on two legs might have made that a wildcard game for the ages, but.......... Next week I fully expect New England to roll Houston, it's what they do. I think Denver will win, but it's hard to tell if the Ray Lewis retirement train can keep Baltimore rolling. If Ray Rice puts the ball on the carpet twice in Denver like he did today, Manning will make them pay. Â Â I think the Packers will beat the 49er's, I am not sure Kapernick is ready for this spot. And I won't be shocked if Seattle beats Atlanta, they are hot, and I don't trust the Falcons in the playoffs. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Looks like the game went just like I said.....Seahawks defense trumps the skins.4 for 4 in my picks so far.....this next round of games won't be quite as easy to pick.  The game would not have went the way you would have expected had RG3 stayed healthy, regardless, the Skins had a plan with RG3 and it defenitly showed early in the game, honestly it is no ones fault but the Skins for NOT planning a game without RG3, Without a doubt a loss is a loss period !!!!!  I think the first quarter proved that it was all planned around RG3, however I do not believe there was a game plan in place for Cousins, otherwise he should have been in the game in the 2nd quarter, the skins defense left out their assignments to protect their zones up front and in the middle of the field, however their secondary was nothing but amazing tonight, a strong weakness throughout the whole season, but non the less, defense was unsuccessful to stop the Seahawks tonight.  Congrats to the Seahawks and best of luck with the rest of their season !!!  As for the Bengals, they Choked Period !!!, they had that game and they controlled their own destiny, unfortuneatly it was not to be, the Colts however, just plain and flat out lost, they hung tough but then, well they too let a great opportunity slip through their fingers, in the end it took some great players to make some great plays and the best of the best showed up this weekend, congrats to all the teams moving foward and best of luck in the weekends ahead !!!! Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 The skins definitely came out with fire and the Seahawks came out flat for sure. It is impressive no matter who you play to turn that switch like that and hold them to zero points after pretty much walking down the field twice. I also think people are sleeping on Green Bay. They look motivated and ready to play. Next weekends games should be outstanding. Quote
bassh8er Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I agree. I'll be in Denver watching Peyton's first playoff game in Denver, and hopefully Ray Lewis' last game in the NFL. GO BRONCOS! Quote

It is impressive no matter who you play to turn that switch like that and hold them to zero points after pretty much walking down the field twice.  Thats crap and you know it !!!  RG3 was awesome, had it not been for him getting hurt they had no containment and Seattles defense was out of sorts, once he was no longer mobile there was only one answer and they (the Seahawks) played very well, AFTER the fact, that means we became one dimentional,  The only switch that was flipped was RG's injury, Seattle took advantage of that and made great adjustments for it,  and the Skins had no other options, They made a huge mistake continuing to play RG3 and suffered for it, I take nothing, NOTHING, away from Seattle they played very well,  but I honestly don't think they planned for Cousins to play and the game plan was not put in place, Holding the Seahwaks to only 24 points was good but without a offense we did not stand a chance and the defense spent waaaaaayyyyyy too much time on the field, I will say our weakest point all season, the secondary, shined and hung in pretty dang good but it just was not enough without an offense to put points on the board, there was no reason why we should not have put Cousins in, the second quarter should have given the Skins enough time with Cousins to make adjustments and at least given the Skins a chance.  In my opinion they left RG3 in 3 quarters too long and we sufferered for it, but it is what it is...a loss. Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I wouldn't take much away from the Seahawks, RG3 does not play on the defense. Â Seattle's offense rose to the occasion, overall the Hawks played a good game. 1 Quote

Yeah i can see that too. Unfortunately i cannot remember the exact time when RG re aggravated his knee injury. I do agree it was more of a schematic problem for the skins for not preparing in case RG went own. Seems like an ego thing for shanahan and him not wanting to put RG out and not to mention all the controversy that surrounded the original injury and the doctor coming out saying he never cleared him to come back out and play.  I also wonder if it would have mattered if they brought cousins in earlier. I mean he isn't that mobile so not sure how much different the outcome would have been but i guess we will never know. It was a good run for the skins and the confidence they built should help them next season. I don't see any reason why they won't be favored to win the NFC east next season.  You are right in a loss is a loss, i just hope that RG can get healthy again because he is a pleasure to watch play even though he will probably dominate my team, the eagles, for his entire career which hopefully isn't shortened because of stupid coaching. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I don't know how much it would have mattered, due to the fact it never happened, I do however think, had they put Cousins in after RG's injury, which was right after the second TD in the first quarter, I feel the adjustments could have been made during half time for Cousins to keep the game close enough to have a chance at the end, Seattle made some really great adjustments on defense just after they knew he was hurt and really changed up the pressure put on the QB, no doubt, they got after it for sure.  We only allowed 24 points even with the defense on the field for most of the remaining 3/4's of the game, putting Cousins in with only 6 minutes to play, I really don't know what they were thinking at all, other than it was a must at that point,  my hat is off to the secondary of the Skins, best they have played all year long.  Another shout out would be to the ref's, they let them play as much as possible without letting the game get out of hand, both sides got away with some really good stuff, it looked like the days of old almost, a hard fought game on both sides.  RG knows or he had to have known he was no longer accurate with his throws, it was easy to see, he could not plant thet leg and it was causing a ton of pain, being a captin and a leader of that offense I am sure he felt it was up to him to do all he could to help the Skins get that victory, I support that, but as a leader, he had to have known we had a coaching staff that knew how to call plays for Cousins as well, I too am not sure of the situation surrounding RG3 but it really does not matter now, I do look forward to next season, if they do everything right in the off season, we could be a contender for sure.  I take nothing away from Seattle, they fought hard and deserved the victory and they played very very well, I wish them the best of luck the rest of the season. 1 Quote

I really don't feel that getting rid of Reed was your all's answer, you were right there the whole season, just lost some really tough games with some poor playing, just like the Skins in mid season, they just never recovered, I don't know who is going to replace him but I wish you guys the best of luck this coming season as well, there have been some really great games between the Skins and Philly, I think those games will be back in the near future. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I agree that this season was strange for the Eagles but it wasn't as much about Reid for one season but really it was more about a culmination of years of bad choices. The eagles were not the same once Johnson died and they have been scrambling on defense ever since. It was also Reid to blame getting rid of Dawkins which was a horrible move.  The Eagles needed a change and while i doubt they will have as successful a run as they did with Reid it was time for a change. He has done an incredible job with the QB position in his tenure and if he won one Superbowl then i can guarantee he would have been a coach in Philly as long as he wanted and most likely they would have put a statue of him out front of the stadium Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I feel there is much more going on up there in Philly than just those few things but I agree, there needed to be a change for sure, but all of those winning seasons just wern't good enough and I can see the valid point, oh so close that many years and just can't get it done, I feel for ya, (speaking from experience) lol !! at least we as Skins fans were let down early in each season lol !!  So, looking forward to the weekend, there should not be any more guesses as an upset, since I was only one for four this past weekend HA !!!  I am going with the Broncos over the Ravens, The Pats over the Texans, Yes the Seahawks in Atlanta, and I am not sure about Green bay and the 49ers, I am leaning toward Green bay, they are healthy again and look like they are ready to bring it, so I will go with Green bay. Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Winners this weekend.....Ravens, Pats, Seahawks, Packers.  On a side note, Denver is the only NFL team who's GM looks like the teams mascot, that might be how he got the job. lol 1 Quote

Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Well I gotta root for my guys firstly. Second, if we can keep the tempo of the offense we had the second half yesterday, without Rice fumbling we can win. No doubt this is a test. I also think that seeing a team for a second time might help as far as game plan, what they do etc. but key to our victory is limiting our turnovers. We have had some defensive success against Manning before, the problem has always been our offense scoring points and keeping possesion. Â Also Sunday was the first time that Suggs, Lewis, Reed and Ngata all played in a game this season. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 They all looked good too !!!  The up tempo of Manning will be one of the keys, I think if it stays close, which I suspect it may, I give it to Denver,  Manning is a beast in close games as a closer, I think that may be the only situation you will need to worry about, even if you all pull ahead throughout the game, he is a strong come from behind QB that knows how to time everything just right it seems.  Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Yeah I recall a 23-20 loss to the colts at the hands of manning. He is tough, one mistake on D and he can put his team in feild goal range, deadly with those 20-30 yard passes. The pass rush suggs and kruger with the underneath coverage of the short wr, rb and te will be key. Get the pressure on manning but cover the short/screen recievers. Â I still thought we should have ran the ball more, I dunno maybe I am too used to Jamal lewis and a sub-par QB. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I think that since you have a healthy D now, you will do well, it's how well do you do on offense that will determine the outcome of your game I feel, I think the play calling went well this past weekend, all things considering, it did not appear to be any confusion on anything they called, really nice job done there for sure.  It should be a good game, Good luck !!! Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I am refraining of my picks till later in the week  These games are to close to call really even though point spreads may say otherwise like denver giving up 9 +/- to baltimore... Quote

Go with your gutt !!!, numbers don't tell you everything LOL !!!  I mean just because I am at 25% from the past weekend should not mean you can't be either LOL !!! 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 The Baltimore game is the one i am actually struggling with. I am pretty sure it will be green bay and the seahawks out of the NFC and the Texans will beat the Patriots (my hatred of the cheating patriots overrides common sense) but the Baltimore game has me intrigued.....  I will finalize predictions soon but i am not ready to commit just yet Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Im in the same boat as far as the Pats go too lol !!! Â To me they did far far worse than the Saints did and barely got a slap on the wrist for it, talk about mad !!! Â I will be pulling for the Texans but the Pats will move on, but I will say they will go down in the NFC/AFC game. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Well I have even more of a hatred because one of the years they were confirmed as cheating they beat the eagles in the Super Bowl by a measly 3 points. They did lose a firs round pick and were fined half a million dollars to both the coach and team but I agree way to lenient. They disregarded the integrity of the game. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Let's not go down the "spygate" road. There have been many past players, coaches and GM's who have come out and said that this was part of every tams gameplanning, for years. It just so happened that Mangini decided to act like a spoiled 12 year old and ratted the Pats out. If you truly believe that spygate was the reason the pats were winning, how did they run off 18 straight victories right after the "investigation", and subsequently made the playoffs every season, and 2 super bowls? I realize being a Pats fan I am skewed, but this is laughable. people say, but they havent won a super bowl since, well, how easy is it to win a super bowl? They made it twice, and lost because of basically 3 plays, a miracle catch by a helmet, a perfect throw by Manning down the sideline, and the pats best receiver dropping a pass he catches 100 times a season, none of these plays has anything to do with filming anything. As far as the Saints go, another joke. NFL tams have been sending guys out to hurt the opposition since the league started, and some candyass now says it's not the right thing to do, crap if you ask me. Whomever decided this should be forced to watch the longest yard and slapshot for an entire weekend. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 We all know it's been going on forever ...everywhere!! Â It's the penalties that were imposed for each that was the discussion, but thats not the real reason I hate the Pats, so for sake of arguements I will keep those to myself, we all have a reason why we dislike a team or 2 or 3, but regardless I still say Pats win this weekend. Â There is no denying that teams ability to play football, I will say they have the easy game this weekend. Quote
