Bass Angler Magazine Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Have you planned one last fishing trip before winter or are you going to fish regularly through the season? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 14, 2012 Super User Posted October 14, 2012 Smallmouth fishing on the Tennessee River is just getting started...WOO-HOO! Quote
fishking247 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 as long as their is no ice i will be fishing all year Quote
KevO Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 It's just starting to get good here down south. I'll be fishing all winter long too! Quote
Greed Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Smallmouth fishing on the Tennessee River is just getting started...WOO-HOO! Agreed! My go to bait when the water is >50 degrees is a lipless crankbait. This year I've been throwing 6-7" Swimbaits all year so I'm looking forward to see how my huds work in cold water. Quote
Pleiades Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I'll be fishing all winter. Feels like I have the lake to myself. Quote
Sdaversa Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 I'll also be fishing all winter. And if it gets cold enough up here for the water to ice over, my buddy and I are planning on trying ice fishing. So either way I'll still be out there! Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 14, 2012 Super User Posted October 14, 2012 Living where water temperatures rarely drop below 45 degrees we bass fish year around. Winterizing boats, taking our batteries out so they don't freeze, are things we only read about. Tom Quote
Bass Angler Magazine Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 We have some great articles in store for you this winter. Boat storage, places to fish this winter where the fish are bitn, float n fly technique, swimbaits, how to have confidence, how to long line, A rig and about 30 more that should keep you busy for a while. lazeebum Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 My favorite time of year. There are less boaters, less skeeters and less snakes. And the fishing on the Tennessee river is great this time of year. As far as swim baits go, I have been swimming grubs and hair jigs for years. Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 As long as the water is not frozen over I'm fishing. 2 Quote
SGT Rico Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I'll be out there too!!! I love it, nothing like getting to the lake and seeing no one else on the water. I live in the South, and still anglers stay away during the cold days. 1 Quote
thehooligan Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I fish year round, and if we get a really cold winter in gonna try some ice fishing. Quote
Goose21 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Very interesting. I live in mid MissourI. Gowing up the start of school in late August usually meant the end of fishing for me until next summer break because of baseball/golf/ basketball. I have renewed my bass fishing obsession this year though and am enjoying every minute of it, whether I'm catching fish or not. Heck, I've had some of my best days here in Missouri as we transition into fall. Im excited to get out on the water in the winter months when no one else is, and prove a few people wrong that swear you can't catch fish after thanksgiving. I'm all ears if anyone would care to enlighten me on typical bass behavior when the water temps are very cool. I'm assuming deep and slow? Similar to the dog days of summer? I could be wrong but appreciate any advice 1 Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Even though I'm involved in school soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and extra-curricular acticities such as science and engineering team(LOL)...There is always time for the fishing! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 15, 2012 Global Moderator Posted October 15, 2012 Most of our lakes and ponds in the state freeze but I happen to be lucky enough to live within an hour of 2 power plant cooling lakes so I fish all winter long! The air temps may be in the 20's or 30's but the water temps will be in the 50's or 60's and the fish are usually at least biting a little bit and sometimes it's the best fishing of the year. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 15, 2012 Super User Posted October 15, 2012 As long as there is no ice I will be fishing for bass. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 15, 2012 Super User Posted October 15, 2012 As long as there is open water, I'll be fishing. Last year we had a very mild winter and I got out quite a bit. This year looks like it may be quite a bit different though - on Saturday, the air temps started out at daybreak in the low 20's! Had ice forming on the rod guides! Quote
wademaster1 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 i fish year round; as long as i can get to "some" water i'm going to fish it Quote
Super User deep Posted October 16, 2012 Super User Posted October 16, 2012 If it's not frozen, I'm trying!! What he said! Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 17, 2012 Super User Posted October 17, 2012 I plan on fishing to December , then it gets to cold and the lakes freeze. You never know what is going to work.Bottom bouncing lures are good at times, crankbaits work well after a few days of warm weather. I havent done well on the local large reservoir when the water gets cold but have had good days on smaller bodies of water. Quote
Backwoodsbasser Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I've already started rigging up some winter baits for sluggish bass. I'm going to try the float and fly this year aswell 1 Quote
wademaster1 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 the float and fly works great; sometimes i use a gulp cricket or gulp minnow instead of the fly too, catches anything that swims Quote
zip pow Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I'll fish all winter of course I'll alternate between hunting in the morning and fishing in the evening. I love this time of year. Quote
