dch03 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I posted a thread a few days ago about cold fronts and got some really good info but I just can't seem to locate the fish. I've been 3 days in a row since the rain quit and conditions have stabilized with only a war mouth and an 8 incher both caught on senkos. Before the front I was having good to great success banging banks with everything from a squarebill to a dropshot. The temps have been high 40s in the morning to low 70s midday with a water temp of 65 on a 500 acre lake. I went to all my favorite spots and worked jigs slow for hours with nothing. I went to the coves and slowly worked a spinner and senkos with nothing. I even backed out to where my hummingbird 170 "located" fish suspended 4-9 feet in 18-23 foot of water and ran a medium diver with no results. The only thing better than being on the lake in these temps is being able to CATCH FISH! Have I gone to early since the front hit or should I take a different approach? I know I have rambled a bit but I am looking for any suggestions.....thanks -daniel Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 12, 2012 Super User Posted October 12, 2012 I havent been in two weeks. Im about the same latitude as you. Two weeks ago , I found fish on the depth finder and worked a Rattle Trap through them. Using a straight slow retrieve, ripping retrieve and yoyo retrieve. They all worked. They were mostly 10 to 20 foot deep suspended off the side of a point. Quote
hookset on 3 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 dch03, trust me, it's not just you. This cold front is brutal. I fish every day and the last few have been tough to get much going. I suggest you really speed up the retrieve or use a heavier jig to increase the rate of fall. I'm just getting reaction bites right now doing that. Caught a couple of decent fish tonight with a KVD 1.5 using a medium fast, stop and go retrieve. The air temps were in the upper 40's. I was psyched just getting a few 2 poundlers, believe me. Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Throw some topwater, up here their hittin' them.... Quote

Super User Crestliner2008 Posted October 15, 2012 Super User Posted October 15, 2012 You might want to toss a hard, or soft, jerkbait, if the water is fairly clear. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted October 15, 2012 Super User Posted October 15, 2012 You might want to toss a hard, or soft, jerkbait, if the water is fairly clear. X2 Jerkbaits work really well, the other things I like are hair jigs, hair jigs work really well for colder water, but they still have a great effect on getting fish to react on those stubborn frontal conditions. Another trick I like is throwing french fries with a small nail in the tail end of them when fish are suspended as you stated. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted October 16, 2012 Super User Posted October 16, 2012 Idk ive was having trouble with that too but i started throwing baby bush hogs green pumpkin awesome right now Quote
dch03 Posted October 17, 2012 Author Posted October 17, 2012 Good ideas...ima try sine jerks and brush hawgs tommorow. I went today and found 6 in 4 hours!!! Not good but better than the previous days. All caught deep in the brush about halfway back in a cove. They were liking the senkos today Quote
