The Brim Reaper Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Medium-fast (or moderate-fast) rods. What techniques are they suitable for? Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 12, 2012 Super User Posted October 12, 2012 That rod will have more flex before the "backbone" of the rod. They will help keep a fish buttoned up with a treble hook bait that doesn't need a hard hookset. Some flipping rods are also Moderate action. This makes me scratch my head some because you can turn a fish around faster and keep them out of trees better with a faster action. I guess this is done with the rods length. Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Medium fast is a good all-around rod that will do just about everything well. A medium with a moderate/fast tip is a great rod for lipless cranks, squarebills and smaller spinner baits. I have a 7'M Moderate action Bu Coo that has no problem driving the hook home with a texas rigged work either. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 13, 2012 Super User Posted October 13, 2012 Most of my rods (spinning) are med fast, a good hook set can be obtained with any kind of lure, exposed hooks or not, imo good timing is the key factor. In regards to Hi Salinety's comment about moving or turning a fish, a very good way to do that is to move your hand up onto the shaft of the rod, you now have leverage on the fish, another reason all my rods have a foregrip. This is basic " landing fish 101", as with anything it's just a matter of getting the feel for it. Quote
