C-Rig Rod Suggestions

I am in the market for a c-rig rod for 1/2 oz or less. I have always been a loyal St Croix fan and was considering another LTB 7'1" M but am thinking of trying something new. I am currently using an Avid 7'M and it's a great rod but I'd like a lighter and more sensitive rod and the the LTB isn't much lighter. What do you guys suggest in the $300 or less range?

You'll likely think I'm a little loony (BTW, I am), but check one of these out in 7ft. M/H Fast. http://www.basspro.c...10183/#wishlist Don't let the price fool you. It's a boron matrix/IM9 graphite blank and sports PacBay guides. Very light and sensitive. It isn't a St.Croix, but you could spend $300 on G.Loomis and waste $200. I don't own a St.Croix, but I do have a GLX and although it isn't used for the same technique as my Browning, I feel the Midas is on par as far as sensitivity and is definitely lighter.

I would choose a falcon cara, there are models in 7' and 7'6", I suggest the rod in mh or heavy side more than medium, power.

I can't recommend a rod, but I do agree with David. If you decide to try a Falcon, go up one size in power. I have several Falcon Mediums. They are all rated from 1/4-1/2 oz. Some rods handle heavier lures than rated. I don't consider Falcon to be one of them although I think their rods are plenty strong. I used a MH Original to haul my PB out of a Hydrilla bed this past spring. Was using 40 lb. braid on an STX. I held the spool with my thumb while pulling it out. Rod performed beautifully.

I love my GLX 803 BCR as a light c-rig rod. Most sensitive rod in my arsenal, you can "read" the bottom with it, and feel the lightest bites. Watch the fishing and boating boards for sale forums, you'll see used 803's pop up in the $200-250 range. They pop up on Evil Bay quite regularly also.

Road warrior is on the mark with the LEC70MHF. I'm not sure if there are any left, but St Croix had.several in their online bargain room for 30-50% off. Tough deal to beat!

I have an older model LTB 7' 3" MH/F that is the C-rig model that works very well for that or for flipping and pitching.

+1. The BCR803 GLX is pretty much the gold standard for bottom sensitivity. Great C-rig rod, for sure. And now that GLoomis is ending the Expeditor service on most of the GLX's, you should be able to find them pretty cheap.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I was talking to a guy at our club weigh in yesterday that told me his brother was selling a Legend Extreme 7' MH (split cork grip not the new one). I stopped by on the way home and bought it. I guess the rod gods only want St. Croixs in my boat.
