TNBassin' Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 The top water bit has really come alive here finally and I wanna try either the Rage Shad or the Eeliminator. If anyone has used these, which would be the best for the top water bite? Thanks. Quote

Big-O Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The Rage Shad is the most aggressive soft plastic topwater bait on the market, even more noisy than many buzzbaits, but you can fish it through trash that buzzbaits will foul up. It can be tuned down so that it's not as aggressive as well. The Rage Toad is the next step down for aggression and it can be tuned down too. The Eeliminator is more subtle and works extremely well in calm water or quiet conditions! If you watch the "Bringin Heat" video... you will see the type of action it has. Each has it's own specific use application but the eeliminator is also the best C rig bait on the market, IMO! If you Rage Rig it (swimbait hook), on a slack line fall, it rocks back and forth seductively. Hope this helps! 1 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 11, 2012 Super User Posted October 11, 2012 The Shad when they are aggressively feeding on top, and the Eel when you still want to fish on top, but don't want to make all the ruckus. They're both great, and a lot of fun to fish. 2 Quote
TNBassin' Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 I'll take the word of the man that designed the baits. Thanks Steve. 1 Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 12, 2012 Super User Posted October 12, 2012 The rage shad is by far the best. The eel has a spook like action and works too though. Quote
TNBassin' Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 So what's the consensus choice for hook sizes? I picked up a pack of these in silver bling and wanna test these out soon. The pack says between 4 and 6/0 but a 4 seems a little small. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 13, 2012 Super User Posted October 13, 2012 Yeah, 4/0 is a little small. I always use a 5/0 Moaner Stroker with the bait screw lock. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 13, 2012 Super User Posted October 13, 2012 I use a 4/0 on the rage shad and it works great. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 13, 2012 Super User Posted October 13, 2012 I've heard some people say the toad flips over and isn't steady without a double hook. Is that true? Quote
Jim_M Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Different conditions, different presentations. Buy both, they catch fish. Quote
SGT Rico Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Rage Shad for sure! I've had some incredible strikes using that lure. Quote
TNBassin' Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 Picked up another pack today in the smokey shad color and some 5/0 hooks. Maybe see how they work tomorrow. Quote
Brian Needham Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I've heard some people say the toad flips over and isn't steady without a double hook. Is that true? no, not if rigged right. I use normal 4/0 owner ewg plus. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted October 16, 2012 Super User Posted October 16, 2012 I've heard some people say the toad flips over and isn't steady without a double hook. Is that true? I use an 1/8th Superline hook from Gamakatsu. Gives you a little extra distance but it helps keep it from rotating. If you have rigged straight and you retrieve is straight you should be fine with a weightless hook. I use a 5/0 on Rage Shad and Toads. Quote
