SnazzySenko Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Ok so I want to get a good spinning rod, any good suggestions? Max price is around $150. And has anyone fished in Amelia Eahart park here in Miami, if so is it any good for shore fishing? Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted October 11, 2012 Super User Posted October 11, 2012 Hey, you are talking about my home court. Welcome to BR. I fish Amelia often. There is fish to be caught. They are not easy but they have size to them. My largest to date was 6-7lb range I friendly with the park staff and reports are some have caught 9lbs plus. is The whole park shore fishing, only thing is there is no fishing around the ski boat area, and when they do the remote control speed boats its a real pain. Avoid weekends. They charge a entry fee but its free during the week. Quote
Letzgofishing Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 hey guys i am new to this forum and i live in Miami. Soon ill be heading out to Amelia Earhart park to do some fishing and i heard there's about 5 lakes in the property, which lake would you suggest has the best fishing? Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 16, 2014 Super User Posted June 16, 2014 The central lakes produce. But once the ski boat is doing its thing you are limited to the one lake in the middle of the park and the other 2 lakes on the Eastern side of the park. Quote
gar-tracker Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I wouldn't spend a lot of money on the rod get a med action 6'6, BPS have a lot of decent rods, then get a med range spinning real, these are pretty good for the money. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Extreme-Spinning-Reels/product/11092105011328/ 1 Quote

I walked all over the bank from the lake that is on the left side before the booth on the top entrance and the lake where the bridge is at and no luck so i decided to go to the everglades... do you have any suggestions? have you ever fished the Aerojet Canal? Man you can't walk around, you gotta be sneaky. You expect an 8 pound bass to sit there and wave a sign "catch me" while you tromp up to it? LOL The first thing you might want to do is read the bank fishing tips in the general section. Secondly who said they site near the bank and you can see them? You will need to learn were they are and like to hide during different times of yr at that particular pond. good luck 1 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 18, 2014 Super User Posted June 18, 2014 Amelia holds very nice fish. However, since, it gets alot of fishing pressure, the bigger fish are not going to be easily seen. Especially if u don't, have polarized glasses. You can't go there and expect to know the park. I am still learning things and I have been fishing it for 16yrs. I am not going to tell u my secrets but I will say, really study your cover. Take advantage of the grass and rocks. Goodluck if you fish the park again. Quote

Aerojet is pretty far down South, I have never fished it. I have not heard any reports from that area in quite some time. Since you live in the Kendall area have you maximized the spots in your area. Every time I have been down to Kendall I have seen some nice canals and lakes in different areas. My last bit of advice to you is the following. Never dismiss an area because you never "saw" any big fish around or because you only saw little ones. If I were to see little bass around that would give me clues as far as the moods and patterns of the "bigger" fish. Take the time to learn and understand your fishing grounds. It's easier said than done, I understand that, but a little patience can help you understand the fish you are after. Quote
