mattk22 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 What oil do you recommend to mix for my 03 Yamaha 150 2 stroke? Synthetic, mineral? brand? Also, do you need ethanol treatment for 2 strokes? I would assume yes, but wanted to find out. Also, what do you use for your treatment? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 9, 2012 Super User Posted October 9, 2012 I've been running mineral and semi senthitic in my 05 Merc since new. So far so good. I'm not brand loyal. As long as the oil is marine rated, I don't think it makes a difference. Seafoam in every few tanks and Stabil for any extended storage. Quote

X2 on both parts, look close and make sure it is Marine Rated, I use super tech it's half the price of Quicksilver and Johnson/rude even in bulk. Sloan, you don't need stabil if you add seafoam, it does the same job, pretty good stuff !! Quote
sarcazmo Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I just started using West Marines brand of oil with no complaints. It regularly goes on sale for ~$15 dollars a gallon. After a lot of internet searches I came across a thread where the company that makes West Marine oil chimed in and talked about it. AFAIK it meets the same requirements as every other TC-W3 Oil and is actually a pretty decent oil. Just looked it up and starbrite makes the oil for West Marine. Other than that I've just added some startron every time I add gas and its been pretty painless. Quote
Fishn4-5 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Penzoil XLF is the best oil out there for steal bore 2 strokes you should never Run 100% SYN in your steal bore outboard only in the high performance Nick motors Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted October 11, 2012 Super User Posted October 11, 2012 I stay brand loyal because I know that Quicksilver is available everywhere, so I don't have to look around for the "Marine Rated" oil. Just laziness on my part. And Startron goes into every tank of gas. Quote
