Junebugman Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Hi all! I have a special edition 1986 u.s. bass world championship skeeter sf175 starfire with a 1985 merc black max this thing flies!!!! It has a lol!! 45 lb edge on it now, but I found a mg brute 67lb 24 volt tm for it will this be big enough as far as power? please any info will help! Thank's Tightlines!! Junebugman Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 8, 2012 Super User Posted October 8, 2012 Should be fine. If you tend to fish in the wind alot might be a little underpowered. Still better than what you have. Quote
NBR Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 My boat is a 19' Astro the original TM was 40#. When it failed I replaced with a 67# which has been fine. There are times I'd like bigger but rarely do I run the TM at over 40% power. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted October 9, 2012 Super User Posted October 9, 2012 I have a 17'6 2001 Ranger R73 with a 115 Evinrude Ficht. My trolling motor is a Powerdrive V2 70lb thrust. That's a fairly close match up to you, and my trolling motor is perfect. I think you'll be just fine with that. If it's really windy you'll probably have to crank it up to keep a consistent speed so make sure you have good batteries. Good luck Quote
Al Wolbach Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 As long as you don't fish a lot of weeds you will be fine. My 20' Champion came with 67lb MG Brute and it was fine until I fished lakes with heavy weeds.............Al Quote
scrutch Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I think you'll be fine too, but I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to upgrade to more thrust in the future. You can NEVER have too much thrust. I went to a 101# thrust on an 18 ft Cobra and I've never thought I had too much. In fact, there have been a couple times I needed the extra power. When it comes to TM thrust, go big or go home. Quote
Shane Procell Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I have a 21 foot Stratos with the MG Brute 67. Works fantastic and I rarely run it at more than 40%. Quote
greyleg33 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 You should be fine. Rare is the time you'll need more than 67. Quote
Fishn4-5 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I had the same boat at one time time and it was a pretty fast boat with the old 2.4 200 merc till i blew it up so i thougt what the heck!! and hung a 260 on the back wow was that thing a hand full that boat wasent made for the kinda speeds i was trying to run it i could run up to about 82 and it would just get to unstable... So i figured if i wanted to go fast and I DO i better get me a Allison so I did and now with the old motor i could 99.7 im putting a promax on it this winter ill lose some speed but it will last a little longer then the 260s do Quote
