TNBassin' Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Uhh which revo, and unleash the shimano fanboys. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 8, 2012 Super User Posted October 8, 2012 The Revo STX is a shade lighter. Other than that, it's six-of-one or Half-dozen of the other. You just have to decide if you're a Revo guy or a Shimano guy. I personally like Daiwa reels, but I own three Chronarch e7s and I like them just fine. Quote
Diggy Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Uhh which revo, and unleash the shimano fanboys. pandoras box has been opened The chronarch has been out longer and has a solid track record so far. The gen 3 revos are new so the hiccups may not be worked out yet, if any are there. I own neither this review was just posted on the stx http://bit.ly/W2FrevoSTX Quote

I have no loyalty to one company or another. I have Shimanos, Quantum, Pflueger, and abu. I rarely get in a beef here except on the debate of rods that are assembled in Mexico and how inferior they are. *sarcasm* I think the Revos are fine looking reels, have never used one though so can't give input there. I have a C4, mighty fine reel. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted October 8, 2012 Super User Posted October 8, 2012 Mark, I knew exactly what you were saying. I just used the "Quote" feature incorrectly. I do not want anything to get lost in translation. Although the OP is asking an innocent, and genuine question, this post can sometimes get a little heated. Your post speaking on LgMouth behalf brought some comic relief. 1 Quote

McAlpine Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Actually, I just had this exact prediciment. Someone gave me..yes gave..a new 7'0", medium heavy veritas. Not a bad rod. I decided I was going to use it for flipping creature baits to cover. I narrowed down my reel search to both the Chronarch and the Revo STX. I looked at both of them at my local BPS and tried them on the rod. My findings: The Chronarch is a bit heavier than the Revo. This extra weight actually balances out the 7' rod perfectly. The Revo puts the rod at just barely tip heavy. The Chronarch has a silly gap on the side of the thumb bar. Annoying. Same thing on the newer Curado's. Revo feels much better in the hand. Both reels are very smooth reeling and the free spool on both is excellent. The Revo is a little bit smoother. Fit and finish on the Chronarch from a visual standpoint is very good. Same on the Revo. The reel handle on the Chronarch has a little play in it. Going to anti-reverse on the Chronarch has a little play. The Revo anti-reverse and reel handle are superior. Overall the Revo STX is a better reel in my opinion. That's what I purchased. Either are fine but after really looking things over, the Chronarch and Curado's are not what they used to be. Now, the best reel I held was actually the Revo MGX....However; at $350....didn't come home with me. Regardless, I would put the Revo STX right in line with my Smoke PT but at $15 cheaper. If I could change the Revo at all it would be to add a little weight, it would balance out a long rod better. I did try a smoke on the rod and it was way to light and made the rod far to tip heavy. Now my smoke reel on smoke rod...that is a beautiful thing. Good luck. Quote

jeb2 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 thanks guys. im probably going to get the revo. i already have a couple but was thinking about trying a shimano. Good choice. I have a Gen 3 STX and a Curado 200E. I'm pretty sure the Curado 200E is the same as the current Chronarch 200E, except color. The 200E is a nice reel and works well for med to heavier baits. But the STX is just more versatile, and seems to cast further in the same setups. The carbontex drag on the STX is very strong and very smooth, as well. The STX is also over an ounce lighter, of course, and that's a big plus in my book. Quote
