Go Fish Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Does it matter if you take your senkos out of the bag to store in a tackle box? Just wondering because my soft tackle box is filling up with bags and would save a lot of space if i could just organize them in a plano box, but not worth losing the yamamoto magic if it hinders their scent/softness etc. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted October 6, 2012 Super User Posted October 6, 2012 I personally like to keep them ziplocked air tight. If you're only keeping them in a box for a short period I think you'll be ok. I wouldn't store them for a long time in a box. That's just me. Quote
FillupD Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I like the bag storage also. Colors are marked on the bags and depending on the box, bags can be rolled up tight and stored in the slots along with a bag of hooks so everything is in one box for an excursion. Saying that, My bags are in ziplocks on rings to flip through but I agree, it does get a little packed up. If you have your senkos in a box "loose" and your box gets rained on or splashed getting water in it - all your senkos are wet and need dried out and the water does not do them any good either. It probably be wouldn't be too hard to have a $80.00 to $100.00 investement of Yamomoto's exposed to the elements in one box, personally don't like the idea. I have heard of some guys placing a couple of bags of colors they are planning to use in a cooler and getting them cold, they last longer than a hot senko and the fish like the coolness? I believe they may be a little tougher being cold but I'm not sure about the temperature preference of the fish but any advantage is OK, even physiclogical. I've seen the bag clips for under a deck lid, thats an interesting storage idea also. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted October 6, 2012 Super User Posted October 6, 2012 This is what I do, I have a bulk water proof storage box/tote filled with soft plastics in there original bags. I usually keep it in the garage where I park my boat, or in a large compartment on my boat out of the way, that I don't need to access all the time. I then have a few of the deep Plano one compartment 3700 boxs that I fill with stuff out of the storage box as needed. My system of what is in what 3700 box changes. Some times it's sorted by bait type, sometimes it's lake specific, or sometimes it's just crap I thorw in there in a hurry. Quote
Super User Marty Posted October 6, 2012 Super User Posted October 6, 2012 I have them in a utility box and haven't seen any problems. As far as additives, I was under the impression that salt is the main one and out of the bag shouldn't affect that. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 I have had some fade. I keep them in zip lock bags; their original containers; and in the open air in a drawer. Don't seem to notice any decay or problems with any of my Senkos. Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Leave them in their original bag, and toss all the bags in a Ziploc Freezer bag. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 Plano type box is fine for everything you might "use". I leave "reserves" in their original package. Quote
fishking247 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 i always keep my plastics in the original packing Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Soft plastics come in specially designed bags to keep the safe and fresh from other harmful plastics with Elaztech... When soft plastics come in contact with soft plastics which contain Elaztech, they melt. The original bags that your worms come in are designed to stop these types of chemical reactions, and keep you bait safe. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 Be careful if you mix the colors the colors will bleed together. You can trust me on this! 1 Quote

X2 There is nothing wrong with leaving them in a Plano box for a period of time. I've got some that have been in boxes for a long time now. Quote
BobP Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I keep mine in their bags but if I used a Plano box it would eliminate having the baits deform as they sit in the bag, which is a big deal. Quote
Rumslo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I like to keep plastics in the original bag. I store the bags in bait binders (Cabelas TUB or Plano Worm Wrap). I can keep sticks in one bag, shakeys in another, etc. Easy to find, easy to get to bait, and not a lot of storage area lost in the boat. Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 I store my extra soft plastics is the original bags and keep what I plan to fish with in Plano boxes. With that said I have over a dozen larger size Plano 3700 boxes filled with soft plastics! If I buy the soft plastics in smaller qty 10 each size bage, I roll them and put those in the Plano boxes. Larger qty bags I take out about 10 or so and put those in sand which size zip bags and put those in the Plano boxes. The larger qyt bags get stored in a soft storage tackle bag. The reason I do this is to organize my soft plastics, it 's a lot easier to take out a flat box and know what you have, instead of trying to sort through a tackle bag full of smaller bags. I have opened and unopened soft plastics in Plano compartments that are several years old in perfect condition. I like to keep the original bags so I know the make and color numbers. If I have used a zip bag, I know there should be a larger bag somewhere. Tom Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 A couple of years? I don't have any issues with stored plastics. I know there are some plastics in my box that have been in there for a couple of years. When I top my boxes off, I just lay in the new ones on top of the old ones. All of mine are stored in the garage though. Not sure what would happen if you left them in a boat locker all summer parked outside though.... Quote
Super User Alpster Posted October 8, 2012 Super User Posted October 8, 2012 I have LOTS of plastics that have been stored in "Plano" 3700 boxes for years. Some as much as 5 or six years. I can't see any visible reason why they won't still catch fish. I have also had a few melt together and threw them out. I wrote them off to a bad batch. Ronnie Quote
