Looking For A Silent Suspending Jerkbait

Do they make silent ones? Off the top of my head I can't think of one. I generally use Pointers, and I know that they have a rattle in them. Maybe a Husky Jerk? Do those have rattles in them? I forget. You could always take a Balsa Rapala and weight it down with suspend dots or strips.

I don't know off the top of my head if there is a qaulity jerkbait made with your specifications. I'm sure there are numerous bait builders that have messed around with modifying the internal chambers of the bait.

If it were a project that I dove into, my initial theory on how to accomplish this would be to get access to each individual chamber in the bait, and pull out any kind of metal ball(s) it may have in it. DO NOT throw away those metal balls. If you can, weigh the balls on a small scale. This will tell us the weight that each chamber needs to make sure when you put it back together, it will still be weighted right. My next step would be to SLOWLY put 2-part epoxy into the chambers. The goal of this is just to get the metal balls to stop rolling around and making noise. I say slowly on the epoxy pour because your looking to put just enough in to lock down the metal balls, not to fill the entire extra space with the exoxy. I would be worried that even the addition of the epoxy could throw off the baits balance. If you start to see this, maybe try taking on ball out at a time until you see that the bait's action has returned to normal

LC makes silent pointers now.

As above, Luckycraft silent pointer 95. suspends 4-5 feet. Seems to have a slightly more aggressive action than the Pointer 100. I wish they made the silent pointer in a 3" version.

River2Sea S-Waver isn't a jerk bait, it's a glide bait but should meet your need . The S-Waver is retrieved like a slow motion Jett, you give it a rod sweep and let it domit's owm thing until it stops, get it pause and repeat, deadly on big bass.

This lure floats at rear, but does go under water with the right rod sweeping motion about 1 to 2 feet.

PS; you can modify a Rogue by drilling a 3/32D hole in the center of the belly under the rattle chamber. Squirt a drop of super gel glue in the chamber, shake the bb's to coat them, tape over the hole and hold the lure in the vice softly so it is upright and slightly nose down, let dry. This is trail and error and you may need to add suspend dots to balance the Rogue to have the action you want.

Yo-Ziri makes a silent suspending jerk-bait. I'm pretty sure its called the Yo-Ziri Hybrid because it has a layer of molded soft plastic on the outside, giving it a very realistic look & feel. It has great action in the water too, I have it in golden shiner.

I'm not sure why you want a non rattle jerk bait but I have a few suggestions. Try pointer 127 or pointer 128 ( fatter profile than the 127) I think the 127's are 3/4 oz & the 128's are 1 oz. They both have rattles just hold your nose. If your not satisfied with that choice think musky jerk baits. Like Tom mentioned mention above there are glidders that would work but there are lots of suspending wood & plastic jerk baits without rattles. They start at around one oz & go up to 3-5 oz. Google Rollie & Helens Musky Shop & look under twitch baits, jerkbaits & pull baits. The selection will blow your mind. Specifically look for phantom lures "phantom". I have used the 6" 2.9 oz & the 7.5" at 4.3oz. Very effective slow sink rates bait. They make a 4" 1.3 oz.which should fit what your looking for. Hope this helps.

LC 95 is a smaller silent bait and has been working well for me this fall on both lmb & smb with the occasional Beefy little rainbow trout which is a tasty bonus by-catch.

Rapala makes the Sub-walk which is essentially a silent suspending jerkbait.

It certainly has a different profile than the classic minnow bait but does produce some decent fish for me.

Sub-walk comes in three sizes. The mid-sized bait comes in at 5/8 oz and the next size up is considerably larger than that. I used the big one for plus size pike in the late fall.

i have plenty of suspending jerkbaits without rattles. i know everyone is sitting there trying to figure out how i have something like that when there are basically none on the market. my collection is old spoonbill rebels, short bill rebels before rattles were put into anything. and as for the suspending part, i started doing that back in the late 60's. some of mine have lead strips glued to the bottom, some have lead wire wrapped around the hook shanks. i still catch fish on them every winter and spring. and, most of my collection are handpainted by me. i am just one that hardly ever uses a bait as it comes out of the package.

here is another tip that i still use on some on my jerkbaits. i drill a hole in between the front hook hanger and the bill. fill the desired amount of water to make bait suspend, rise, or sink, as desired. seal back up with a dab of clear silicone. this is actually the for runner to the baits that have the weights tracking back and forth. on the cast, the water goes to the back of the bait, helping with casting. on retrieve, the water will go from one end of bait to the other, giving it a more random pattern of movement. i still use these baits also. be sure to drain out the water when not in use, and they are stored where they might freeze.

Thanks guys. I'll look into modifying production baits. I've never done that before, so I'll probably start with something cheap. Thanks for the other suggestions too, Let me think a bit what I might want to buy.

Dwight: I have a Pointer 128 and a 127; and I've caught a fair number of bass on them. I fish a couple of pretty clear reservoirs, and one super clear one. Lately I've been thinking if the fish I catch are in spite of the rattles.
