wvbucketmouth Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Ya think folks will be running out to purchase lipless cranks due to what they saw at the Classic? It was pretty much a giant advertisement for lipless crankbaits, and I would think since they were shown on such a big stage that the manufactures of lipless baits would be lovin it. The Classic has got to be good for business. I picked up a Rapala RNR-4 on sale last week for $2.79. Went back to the same store yesterday and the same bait was $6.19 ;D Quote
Captain Obvious Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I don't think that it will do that much good. I mean most serious fishermen have know about lipless baits for a while and its been one of my favorites for a long time. Maybe a lot of new guys will rush out to buy some but most of the guys who have been fishing for a while will be already set just my $0.02 Capt.O Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 22, 2010 Super User Posted February 22, 2010 None of the baits used were "new" Red Eye shads have been around for a while, in fact I think they were "new" the last time the Classic was on Lay. If any thing the winning color(s) will be hot for a bit, maybe KVD's new hooks will see a spike in sales. Yeah there will always be the crowd that runs out and buys the classic winning lure thinking it's magic, and have no clue on how/when/why to use it, but I don't see a shortage in lipless cranks any time soon. _heavydutyload_ Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 it will definitely have an effect. most fishermen aren't on bass forums talking about the newest lures and such. when the marketing machine gets going and word spreads that all the top finishers where using a certain type of bait, sales on the red eye shad and other lipless baits will go up. whether its a new bait or not, sales will increase. Strike King and other lipless companies (especially ones with sponsored guys in the top 5) are happy today. on a side question: what other lipless baits did you see the top guys using? KVD= SK Red Eye Shad Kriet=?? i thought i saw a YoZuri on one of his rods. Faircloth=i know he used a Sebile. Others? Lane=? Chapman? Ike? Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 22, 2010 Super User Posted February 22, 2010 on a side question: what other lipless baits did you see the top guys using? KVD= SK Red Eye Shad Kriet=?? i thought i saw a YoZuri on one of his rods. Faircloth=i know he used a Sebile. Others? Lane=? Chapman? Ike? Not sure that Yo-Zuri was actually Kriet's, could have been an edit. I thought Kriet and Faircloth used Sebile. Ike used Lazer Lure. Don't know what Chapman or Lane used. Doesn't really matter, what matters is that they knew how to use what they used to catch fish. Quote
wvbucketmouth Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 Yea, I was thinking they have been used for years, so I guess they are no secret. Personally, I have never had much luck with them, but you can bet I will give em another shot after watching those guys. I think I have only used the good ole chrome rattle traps, so i'll change it up a little and see if that helps. This new Rapala I bought is in Firetiger. It was the only color they had for the $2.79 price. I'll buy any color for less than 3 bucks. Just got back from Wally World. They have a few on the clearance rack. I picked up a Rapala MR-9 in Bleeding Pearl for $4.50. Regular price was $7.36. I really like Rapala lures, but my goodness the price keeps going up and up. Oh well, I wanna play, so I guess I gotta pay. ;D Its really hard for me to walk away from a clearance rack! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 22, 2010 Super User Posted February 22, 2010 There's a time & place for everything. As long as folks use lures as tools, to achieve depth & speed control, they'll do just fine. Unfortunately, most will buy a dozen of these lures now and never use them! Helps the economy anyway! Super User grimlin Posted February 22, 2010 Super User Posted February 22, 2010 I paid some serious attention to what these guys were doing with the lipless cranks. I'm be the first to admit,I'm not that great with them. Therefore i really don't have a stockpile of them. Now watching these guys,I realize i need a few more. However I'm going with stringjam suggestion on the jackall TN70...not necessary copying what i saw them using...but it's given me an idea how i need to fish them now. Jackall seems to have the bait I've been needing to add. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 One thing I will admit is that I will be adding the strike kings Red Eye shad to my cranking box. I didn't belive the whole "Flutter while droping" bit but KVD has one tried on almost every tournment and swears by it. Besides one thing about lipless baits is not just to throw one brand of them mix it up to help you catch more fish Quote
b.Lee Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I think it is silly to think that that way, it was just a technique that worked for this particular situation and tournament. But I do see how something like this could turn on a buying frenzy. Quote
mhamlin Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I think given the circumstances (prespawn), most serious anglers are already aware of the success this lure brings and as a result have a chosen lipless bait in their arsenal. Now I don't think the publicity will hurt one bit, but personally, i'm not seeing another sexy shad phase headed in our direction. Quote
ToledoEF Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Ive been using my red eyes since they came out. Before that I was using rattle traps! The red eyes have been one of my most productive lures the past few seasons. Quote
SDoolittle Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I fished a tournament on Sunday. Registration was at a marina and I had to walk past a lot of boats that were tied to the dock. The first thing I noticed was that nearly every boat had a rod on the deck with an orange craw red eye shad! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 23, 2010 Super User Posted February 23, 2010 It has already started. Try to get a RedEye Shad from TW. I know of a shop owner who had five or six people come in today looking for the RedEye Shad in Gold Sexy Shad and Mustad short shank Triple Grips. Quote
bmadd Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I'm about this close to putting mine on ebay Quote
