Super User rockchalk06 Posted October 2, 2012 Super User Posted October 2, 2012 We have got some serious rain in the last few weeks. Well over 6". Low temps but the water level is next to nothing. All the fishing docks are sitting on the mud with 200 plus yards of shore in front of them. The d**n is bone dry probably 15 plus feet low too. Are they draining the lake? My fishing trip turned into a lure and golf ball treasure hunt. Quote
Taurus Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Rock, I don't know if they are draining the lake. I doubt it, though. But I think this year's drought has taken a huge toll on water levels all over (Arcadia, Tishamingo). Sorry to hear about your trip. Quote

Haven't been out to Arcadia to check, too expensive. I have been going to Bell Cow out by chandler and the water level is good. Crazy thing is with Hefner just 2 weeks ago the dock still had water around it. That's what made me wonder. It sucks as Hefner is a quick place to pitch jigs around the dock after work to kill time. Straight out east on 2nd and turn in at the Arcadia Park Office. I hike around the lake and carry my sling bag and and an "egg beater" (from wal-mart). I've noticed some drastic water level changes at Arcadia, too, within 24 hours. Points I had to walk around on one day, the next day I just walked across. I gotta get down to Hefner soon. Now, I'm just glad the weather is cooling off so I can get back down to Tishamingo. How do you get to Bell Cow? Do I just take the turnpike straight out? Quote

I've been out there twice but wasn't impressed. But I need to check it out more. 6 bucks each time gets pricey. To get to Bell Cow just take the the turnpike to the Chandler exit and turn left. Go about a 1/8 mile and turn left again after the car dealership. It's about 5-6 miles and you will see the signs. This lake is a structure heaven. Trees every where. Looks like the cut the tops off of trees in a forest and flooded it. 3 buck entry fee and every point of the lake is accessible by foot. Hardly any rocks. I'm headed out tomorrow. Quote
Taurus Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Thanks for the directions. The Arcadia project office is a free access area. Quote
Fishing N Boots Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 I believe Hefner is where we get OKC drinking water so that is why it continues to drain. It should be getting pretty stout now that they are taking water from Canton lake. I love Hefner, i mainly fish the Dam though as that is where i catch almost all my fish. The bass that im holding up on my profile picture was from Hefner dam, and i also caught a 3.5lb walleye and a good size probably almost 3lbs drum all the same day. You can catch mulititudes of fish from the dam. Quote
