I found a Rapala in a pond and could use some help identifying it b/c I’d like to buy more. I lost it before I looked at the name on the bottom (Now I know why they call it Berkley ‘Vanish’).

I’ve since stopped at Dick and checked Raps’ website but got lost trying to wade thru all their lures. Can one of you Rap guys give it a shot? It was:

1-Small (2- 2 ½ ”)

2-Suspending (I’ve never seen a lure suspend that perfect. It completely froze in the water column when I stopped retrieving and it drove the bass crazy).

3-Had a rattle. (It sounded like one or two balls as opposed to many little ones).

4-I think it was their “Glass Clown” color.

5- Ran about 3-4’ deep.

I looked at the smallest Husky jerk, Minnow Raps, and X-Raps. Unfortunately I couldn’t take them out of the package to hear their rattle.

Let me know any suggestions and/or if you like something similar from a different company. I’m using it up in the shallows on my light spinning gear when the bite is tough. That suspending action was priceless. Tks

I use the X-Raps during the late winter and early spring and they seem to have pretty similar specifications other than size. The one's I own are a bit larger than what you mentioned, but I'm sure they make smaller ones.

They make a Husky Jerk and an Xrap in small sizes like that. What you're describing sounds more like an Xrap than a HJ though. I've had really good luck with the small size Xrap, a #6 I believe. It's a little small for baitcasting gear but it fishes great on spinning gear. Crappie and white bass love them also :)

They make husky and xraps both in 2-1/2" sizes The biggest tell the Husky looks like the original floating it is that smooth torpedo shape and the bill is a speperate peice of plactic inserted in and the xrap bill looks like it is poured/molded all one piece together with the bait, it's shape is also different there is an indent on the body behind the eyes.

Sounds like a small x-rap to me. I am also guessing that if it suspended perfectly that the hooks were replaced with a heavier/larger model. I like my x-raps but I have found that they do not suspend perfectly without adding a little weight to them.

Rapalas sure are pretty baits though......and a classic :)

Short digression here but i remember as a kid subscribing to bassmaster magazine and they had an article on how to fish the standard floating rapala and they said to basically cast out and let the bait sit, for up to a minute or more. Well as a 10 year old kid that was hard but i did it and i did it and i did it...my dad would tell me you gotta move it a little but i stood strong and let it sit upwards of 2-3 minutes between twitches. Well it finally worked and i ended up catching a 5lb bass which was by far the largest i had ever caught :) Every time i see one of the floaters in gold with a black back it makes me remember that story :)
