Guys,

I work on my own reels and have tried a lot of different oils. After running out of Shimano oil I called Shimano and asked if I could order some more and the guy told me it was just mineral oil. Is this correct? I know that mineral oils can be slightly different. I read where the new Lucas Fishing Reel Oil is paraffinic oil based. This is a type of mineral oil. Has anyone tried this yet? I know there are many quality oils out there, I just like experimenting.

There is no magic here. Sewing machine oil will work well if you have it around and often comes with a needle oiler or applicator. The most important thing is to properly flush the bearings regularly and lube them lightly as needed. There is nothing done to an oil that makes it "Fishing Reel Oil" other than being labeled as such.

The tech on the phone was telling the truth, the oil included in the box is a mineral oil.

Daiwa does the same thing only colors it red...

As stated there is no magic, and nothing that actually makes any lubrication made strictly for the fishing industry.

The key is to get the bearings flushed and re-lubricated properly... :Victory:
