mikey5string Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I just noticed that one of the guides broke off on my veritas rod. It is a "micro guide" rod. It is the second one from the reel. I am going fishing tomorrow morning and I like the rod but I dont want to have issues on the water. I have a cheap spare rod here just debating changing it out. Do you think it will be a major issue? Thanks Quote
papajoe222 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 That isn't an inexpensive rod and unless you don't mind the chance of ruining it or loosing a fish, go ahead and use it. The missing guide will end up taxing not only the other guides, but the rod in the wrong places. Guides are placed along the spine of the blank and spaced according to the power curve of it. When one is missing, it changes the bend of the blank under load. My advice is to leave it home and go with the spare. Getting a guide replaced isn't a big deal, but have whoever does it check out the others. Whatever caused the loss of that one, may cause the loss of others down the road. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 29, 2012 Global Moderator Posted September 29, 2012 Is the entire guide missing or is the insert missing from the eyelet? If the whole thing is missing I'd fish with it. If the insert is missing it will shread your line and you'd be better off leaving it at home. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 29, 2012 Super User Posted September 29, 2012 Probably won't hurt a thing, but I would opt in using one of my other combos. It's only a day or 2 of fishing, why take a chance. " An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Quote
