i have been using 30# powerpro slick on my spinning/everything rod for awile and it has been good. my ? is,, how much casting distance would i gain if i was to go with 10 or 15# instead. i when with the 30 after getting real mad at some nanofil that was snaping on me but wher i fish 90% of the time is on a small lake or a river were the fish rarely exede 3 or 3 lb .so i am thinking that the 30# might be overkill.

I'd drop down to 15#. You'll gain some casting distance and still have more than enough line strength.

I would drop down for sure, either 15 or 20#, depending on how much vegetation and current you have to deal with. Most name brand names lines break at a number well above what's on the label. From the reviews I have read, 20# PP breaks at about 36#, Suffix 832 about 41 and Spiderwire ultra cast is about the highest at 51#, I think you would be safe with any of them. I use 15 and 20# PP braid in very fast current, fish weigh much more than 3# line breakage is no concern.

I'll take it a step further, 10# PP on your spinning gear.

That's what I use and casting distance is fantastic. 10# is plenty strong at 2# diameter, up to 15# and you're at 4# dia. If you feel more comfortable with that size than go 15, but no more than 20, IMHO.

I've caught some 3 lb fish on 6 lb line. I could see using a super tough line for weeds and cover, but for normal fishing 8 or 10 lb is my go-to. 15 lb would be fine IMO.

On Nanofil, I've been running 12 lb this year and will be using it again in the future. I love the cast distance and I use the floating line as a strike indicator on the fall. I use a flourocarbon leader with the recommended double albright knot and haven't had unexpected break offs.
