rb56 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 which is what i bought for my canoe and have had it plugged into my trolling motor battery. i'm installing a dash on the canoe and i emailed hummingbird asking what all would the finder run on, they said 8 AA batteries, 2 6 volt lantern batteries, lawnmower...anything i can get 12v from. i got two of the 6v and a dash mount cigarette plug that was in my pickup. i connect the batteries and the light on the unit comes on. i haven't got as far as plugging the finder in yet. has anyone ever used 2 6v and how long will they last? i saw somewhere online they last about 3 full days of fishing. i'm trying to avoid the cost and save space and weight of another battery. anyone? Super User slonezp Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 It can be done. I used to run a portable like that 30 years ago. Make sure you fuse the + to prevent damage to the finder. 3 amp inline glass or automotive type. The fuses and fuse holders can be found at any auto parts store. Eventualy a rechargable is the way you'll want to go. Quote
rb56 Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 i have a fuse, i've been using it off my trolling motor battery which has a box i made with external posts and in the end a cig lighter plug which is where i have been plugging it in. i've been going at times when it was still dark and used the plug for a flood light. i bought two 6v lantern batteries and have a port that was in my truck. i'm wanting to mount the port and fish finder on a dash i built for my canoe. i got it to come on once and my hand held cb was plugged in and worked. i wondered about the 8 AA, how do they connect?
