Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 Went to Loch Raven Reservoir today. Was supposed to go with my brother but he bailed so I went out alone. After making my way down a steep overgrown hill and dodging swarms of stinkbugs, I found a quiet cove with a nice rocky outcrop. Started throwing plastic worms and lizards but all I got was little bluegills nibbling on the tail. I haven't really fished crankbaits much but I do have a couple so I tied one on figuring the bluegill would leave it alone. Like my 3rd of 4th cast with it I hooked up a little 10inch largemouth. Didn't hook him in the mouth though. He had one hook under his chin and the other in his gills. Not the biggest fish but my first on a crank. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 Congrats. The first is always the best. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 Nice. My first bass was caught on a Rapala. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 30, 2012 Author Super User Posted September 30, 2012 Went out earlier today and got another one on a crank. This ones a little better. 2 trips and 2 fish on cranks. Think Im starting to get the hang of this. This is probably the worst picture ever taken of me but at least the fish looks good. Quote
zildjian Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Congrats dude! It's awesome going out and catching a bass on a new lure for the first time! Means your doing something right and getting out of your comfort zone with the same old lures. Good job! Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 1, 2012 Super User Posted October 1, 2012 You get a "Boola Boola"!!! Not everyone gets a "Boola Boola." Congrats. You have just found one of the best ways to fish for bass all year and in all conditions. Just remember to TAKE YOUR PLIERS WITH YOU at all times. When you put on your pants put your pliers in your tackle box or pocket. Use the pliers to remove the hooks. And be VERY CAREFUL. One shake of the fish and the hooks are in your fingers or hand. Keep on chucking those crankbaits and start your collection. You can never have too many rods, reels and crankbaits. Quote
Rangerphil Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Congrats now go catch some smallies on cranks then you will be hooked for life! Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted October 2, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2012 Thanks guys. Definitly planning on picking up a few more cranks. And I always have my pliers on me. Really made taking those trebles out a lot easier. Quote
Topwaterspook Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Congradulations, Joe. Cranking is one of my favorite techniques. If you haven't tried one yet, throw a squarebilled. Much continued successs to you. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted October 2, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2012 Thanks topwaterspook. That first one was on a square bill. Funny enough, Im currently trying to learn to fish a top water spook Quote
West Coast Bass Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 congrats tuckahoe...just got my first square bill on the rick clunn and also my first lipless as well on a ratltrap over the weekend. gotta love positive feedback. hooked into one and then had a lot of confidence. ended up catching 5 more over the course of the day. love them crankbaits this was the last and final fish of the day. was adjusting our direction in the kayak by throwing out to the left and i think i found a brush pile or something because she nailed it. clunn.5 all day. Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted October 2, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2012 Thats a sweet fish man! Congrats! Quote
Topwaterspook Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 The "spook" is a sweet bite. I'm sure there must be videos here on working that bait. A little tip passed on by Zell Rowland, feathered rear hook. I tie my own and incorporate silver and gold strands of Flasaboo. It may help a bit to get strikes as the lure pauses between strokes. Highhawk1948 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Congratulations, love it when they just grab it and try to take it away from you. Caught my first fish on a River Runt Crankbait, in Texas, 1958 or 9. Keep chuncking and winding! Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted October 3, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 3, 2012 Grrr....Went out this morning and lost 1 of my 2 crankbaits. Kind of hard to build a respectable lure collection when i keep losing them. Oh well. Christmas is on the way. Ill probably just tell everyone to get me BPS gift certificates. Quote
Amoore9900 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I agree with the squarebilled...we have been soft plastic guys for the most part but this spring started throwing crawfish colored squaredbilled cranks and they started hitting them and haven't stopped all year...we seem to get bigger fish on the crawfish colored cranks ...the fish to the left came on a Strike King KVD 2.5 crank Quote
