Super User BASSclary Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 IBTL. This gets argued over on a weekly basis, and always ends up being locked. Use the Search Function Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 If you need assurance from others about the fishing gear you bought, that's not a good place to be. Heresay is just that, heresay. I couldn't, I wouldn't, I shouldn't give a rip, why could they, why would they, why should they give me lip, for I can fish with what I wish 'til bacon becomes ham, says I, the islandbass, a friend of Sam I am. Don't know what got into me but Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham story just popped in my head. If you like Shimano then let no one talk you out of using their products. 1 Quote
mod479 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 Care to elaborate on some of the "bad things" you've heard about? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 Well, similar threads do come up every week, at least once a week! So, after a page or two they usually turn into "mine is better than yours", the thread turns nasty and gets locked. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator 2 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 I personally dont like the reel seat design of the new rods. I have a few Sellus', but the reel hold design is better for me. The Sellus is a great rod, have had no problems hauling fish out of tough situations. Personally, I would spend money on Abu rods, and use Shimano reels. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 What I've heard is "bad" is Shimano's use of certain plastic internals (reel support, I think) on new spinning gear. But a friend at our local BPS here told me the Shimano rep said to him that if the plastic ever breaks, Shimano will replace it. They're quite confident in the changes they've made. Personally, my gripe is that the new rods no longer come in shorter sizes I prefer... Quote
pat_walker_fishing Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 thanks guys....my issue was with the upward locking reel seats on there other lines of rods....guess i should have been more specefic with my quistion Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 The Interwebz: the misinformation super highway. Don't know much about their rods, but the reels have treated me well. I have three Chronarchs, two Stradics, and three CI4s. All are working out great, and I'm a Daiwa man. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 thanks guys....my issue was with the upward locking reel seats on there other lines of rods....guess i should have been more specefic with my quistion If its the way you have to tighten the grip to lock the reel down, than you have got that right about it being an iffy design. I had a Clarus that I had to send back to Shimano because I had to keep tightening it down, and so the front peice came unglued and broke. They gave me another one free of charge and shipping, but then the tip broke after 3 days use on a small 2.5lb bass. I have never had problems with Abu rods, so Im going to stick to them since they use the front piece to tighten them (as well as the Sellus). If I have a problem with the Sellus" I will replace them with Abus. As far as the reels go, I think the new ones are every bit as good as the previous models. Quote
pat_walker_fishing Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 thanks man....i have mostly cumaras, and they are great! but all the other lines intrige me haha the 2 sellus crankbait rods are great in my opinion too, esspecially for the price. i was told that shimano discontinued the cumulus line and they are working on a new cumara, is that true? jj'sbassinforfun Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I have a couple of the rods(Convergence-Clarus) with the reel seat. For the most part its fine. Except there isn't anything to pad your fingers under the reel. So it gets a bit un-comfy. No issues otherwise. Got a few reels as well. Chonarch is sweet and I'm getting used to the Citica. They will be supertuned this off season. Pretty much an Abu guy for the most part. I did start with Shimano, But because I'm a lefty I veered off coarse when they left us without some gear choices. I'd like to see Shimano do a similar deal as the Abu shop( I tried to get this in the other threads-But they got locked before I could post!). EVA grips and bent handles would be cool. But I doubt we'll see anything like that. All my stuff is customized except the shimies. I do have plans for the 2 200D series Citica's. Shimano could make some cash after the sale as many like to tweak their toys. 1 Quote
pat_walker_fishing Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 i went and bought a clarus tonight......i think i like it!! 610 spinnerbait....the clarus has a litttle bit of eva above the reel seat so thats a plus...i know its not im9 but it 8 but oh well we will see....i have alot of older curados and citicas i want tuned.....i hear they can make them better than brand new!! Super User Hooligan Posted September 29, 2012 Super User Posted September 29, 2012 After Icast and learning the properties of the the new material, they're breaking ground in places none have ventured. The material is lighter and stronger than that used in the CI4. In essence, with Xship added to the Saros- It makes it a competitive reel with the Ci4, from nearly all accounts. It's going to be interesting to see the things to come in terms of design over the course of the next year or two. I'm looing forward to what's to come in the rod department, as well. Fishing both Cumara and Cumulus quite heavily, it's very interesting to me to see them both gone at this point. It can only lead me to believe they're doing one of two things- stepping up the game, or eliminating two series of rods that competed- heavily by many standpoints- with their sister company's top end rods. Let me clarify that statement a bit. The Cumara and Cumulus are built so similarly to the GLX and some will say the NRX that the upper rods weren't worth the money in upgrade. I debate that, as the NRX is definitely a better feeling rod. Were the NRX not in the picture, however, I'd not own a single Loomis bottom contact rod at this point, though. I honestly couldn't justify the upgrade from Cumulus to the GLX- frankly the Cumulus feels much better. Anyhow, enough diatribe... I see Shimano doing nothing but upgrade quality and materials in the release of reels for this season and last. I see them matching the desires of the market and re-introducing the classic Curado at a pricepoint that is feasible for more people than the $200 mark it was going to be. I also see that the workhorses of their lines have continued to flourish. To be frank the most bad that I read about shimano is from a handful of people that are recognizable on only a handful of interweb boards I visit. 1 Quote
