bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I purchased a Lew's laser speed spool combo at Dicks sporting good for 40 bucks, I could pass it up for the price. I can't seem to figure it out how to adjust the brakes though. Does anyone have the same reel that could help? Quote
Diggy Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 try the 2 stickies on setup and casting in this forum Quote
bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 I have 7 setups already (Abu stx's, citica's, pro qual's, zillion) I know how to setup a baitcaster but can seem to get to the centrifugal breaks. Quote

bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 It didn't come with one, I bought it as a combo. I'll just have to take a closer look. I am working third shift for a couple days and haven't had to to check it out. It doesn't even look like the side plate comes off, and there is no dial on the side. Quote
Diggy Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 does it have a screw on the handle side that loosens the side plate on the opposite side(next to the word spool)? It looks like a black screw on the cabellas site....that should loosen then you should be able to twist off the side plate from history of other reels http://images.cabela...wGWhro-LqASAGAM Quote
bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Sweet, I'll look at that when I get home. Thanks! Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 27, 2012 Super User Posted September 27, 2012 Its a mag break only reel. I think? Quote
Arv Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Its a mag break only reel. I think? Yup, should just be that dial on the side plate. Higher number = stronger/more brakes. Quote
bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 There is no dial on the side.. This is what I got from DSG'S website "Four pin centrifugal braking system helps prevent backlash" It's the laser speed spool, and I can't even find it on Lew's site ( didn't look for long) all I saw was the laser MG which has mag breaks. Super User J Francho Posted September 27, 2012 Super User Posted September 27, 2012 Loosen the knurled screw knob on the handle side. Twist the sideplate (up, I believe, or clockwise on a righty), and the sideplate should come off, exposing the brakes. Quote
Arv Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Ah, my mistake. Didnt see the laser in the name. J Francho is right though. If its like the other Lews reels it will be a bar that goes across the gap for the spool, so the actual screw will be on the side with your handles and what not. It took me a minute to figure it out on my first Tournament as well. Quote

Both my lews/revo have the same release mech, even the bass pro pq..but its a pull pin Quote
bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 That was it, it was the black screw of the handle side of the reel, then the brakes are on the inside of the plate... Ended up taking it back because I didn't notice an insert was missing on the rod, so I exchanged it for a quantum smoke reel instead. Quote
bwell Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Thanks for all the help though! Quote
