s13john Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 did we set a date yet, im in as long as its not the last weekend of the month. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 19, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 19, 2012 No s13John we have not set a date yet. January 1st will be the cut off to find out where the meet and greet will be and then we will discuss dates, it's either going to be the end of August or sometime in September when school lets out so that the young ones can enjoy this as well, there is less boat traffic which makes the waters much safer for all who attend as well. We look forward to meeting you and we know you will have a lot of fun !!! Is the end of every month not good for you? Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 19, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 19, 2012 By the way it is 4 to 4 on the votes on SML and the Potomac, with one for the Occoquan !!! We will have a great time so get your votes in !!!! Quote
Traveler2586 Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 There has got to be more interest than what I am seeing in the voting thread. What gives? One thing I have noticed is the Thread for the Poll does not show up under the "View New Content" and never has. I just checked to make sure, and as I type this the Poll is not listed; However, if I go to the Southeast Forum and look, the Poll is listed with a star and is marked as Hot. I think this is a problem with the Forum web site it's self, people can not see the Poll unless they frequent the SE Forum. This Thread however is visible in the "View New Content". If I am like most of us here, when I get on the Forum I first check "My Content" for new post, then I check "View New Content"; if a post is not in one of those two locations I don't see it. EDIT: 11/19/12, 13:14L, I just sent a PM to the Mods asking if they know why we can't see the Poll under "View New Content". EMM 1 Quote

Im cool with either one of the places I too am in the automotive industry, I know what the end of the month means so we will try to work around that for ya !! We may try to do a 2 day event, not sure yet, but I am sure we will work hard on trying to get everybody a ride. 1 Quote
Traveler2586 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 IMHO, I hope we can meet members from other states, not just VA. I, myself, am a MD boy who would cross the river in a heartbeat to attend the VA M&G. So, I hope we'll see members from other states as well. We can't let these VA boys have all the fun.... 2 Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Another body of water that should be considered is Sandy River Reservoir - I personally know of at least 2 - 27" LMBs that were caught and released by DGIF during the spring of 2012 this year. It has a canoe/kayak launch off to the side away from the main two-boat launch with pier. There is also a fishing pier to the opposite side, and portions of the bank away from the launch are used as well for bank fisherman. There is a hp limit on the lake, but it's not what I would consider a major issue, as there is every type of boat configuration and hull type used there. I have fished there for the last 4 years and won the last two kayak tournaments based there this year. There are several deep channels, ledge transitions, coves, submerged timber/laydowns, points, etc. You should consider it, especially since its only 15 minutes away from Briery Creek and is often forgotten. Check it out.... http://www.dgif.virg...play.asp?id=114 Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 27, 2012 It is a beautiful spot for sure, I could not find any camping close to the res. unless I went to Briery Creek, which is also a beautiful place, we did however include Briery Creek as one of our choices for the Meet and Greet, but it got no votes. We will include it again next year as one location, each year we want to go to a different spot in Va. to have a chance to fish and have some fun with friends and family, we are trying our best to get families more involved with an outing such as this one. We started out with Lake Anna this year, even though we did not get the turn out we had hoped for, we had an awesome time, we are looking to give non-boaters a chance to fish waters they may not otherwise ever have the chance to fish, the camping and other things like the picnic we have after the day of fishing allows people to talk and get aquainted with other anglers and their families, we had support from this site and some of our associated sponsors on this last trip and we were able to give out door prizes, but the best part was having fun fishing and meeting with other members. We must find areas that allow all of us to do everything we love to do, along with a gathering area for the families to be able to sit down for a meal together, State Parks are one of Va's greatest resources for allowing us to do just that and one we felt should be included in our decision making process. There is a poll for the Meet and Greet for this up coming year, the top 5 areas that everyone voted for are there, The Potomac, the Occoquan, Smith Mountain Lake, are all in the running right now and which ever place has the most votes is where we will have it at, as of right now, the votes are 4 to 4 with SML and the Potomac tied up, the Occoquan has 2 votes, the end of the voting will be the last day of December, January 1st we will start making plans for the location, this allows everyone time to save funds and make the appropriate reservations needed for the upcoming event. The info for all of these places are listed in the thread with the poll "Locations for the 2013 Meet and Greet" we unfortunately did not get a lot of input but we did list just about every body of water we could think of, so your input would be greatly appreciated and we look forward to metting you should you decide to participate Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Looking forward to it - at this point for me, it is all about the timing of the event, because I have a "bun in the oven" on the way and due in late June. Anything in the spring up until late May will most likely be workable, but after that, the dates would need to be "discussed with the spousal unit" Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 27, 2012 Congrats !!!!! Thoughts and prayers for a healthy and safe delivery for your family !!!! Hope you can join us, it will be in the fall after school is out so the youngsters can join us as well, late August or sometime in September is when we are disscussing, but the date will be decided at the first of the year for one of those 2 months. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 29, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 29, 2012 It's now 5 to 4 between the Potomac and SML, with the Potomac out in front, the Occoquan has 2 and now the Chick is up and running with one vote. It's tight between the 2 front runners, we have the month of December to decide so who's it gonna be ???? This is getting exciting !!!!! 1 Quote
Zoff Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Like I said on the Phone with NF today... I will be glad to fish anywhere. Biggest problem I have is the cost of lodging. IIRC... there were no State Park facilities or camping at the Potomac so that equates to high cost hotels if you don't want to stay in rough parts of the area. Keep that in mind guys. I'm coming either way but will look for alternatives to hotels. Quote

Best of all, the site is located on Mattawoman creek, one of the best (and most pressured) fishing spots on the Potomac. http://www.dnr.state...n/smallwood.asp Quote

MD has Smallwood State Park with camping, cabins, and the best launch facilities along the MD side; also the LaPlata and Waldorf areas (20 to 30 min drive) have excellent hotels that regularly see tournament anglers. B.A.S.S. has held tournaments out of Smallwood many times. Get Nitro and come on over one weekend and I'll show you around. Quote

Traveler2586 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 OK... Nitrofreak... When??? lol What are the regs and requirements if we put in on the MD side? Same as the VA side........ A VA tidal license and one qt. of shine for the MD guy... Check VA regs, here are Md's. http://dnr.maryland....license.asp#RCP Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 30, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 30, 2012 When I called Smallwood, the person there said there was no sites that would work for my camper, I have a 31 foot travel trailer, he also told me there was no over flow parking where I could keep my boat. There was also a conversation about hook-ups all they had was electric only, the camper does have a fresh water tank holding tank which would be no problem, but there seems to be no way to camp there cause it does not offer the room to allow a RV to be set up there. It sounds to me like it is ment for camping tents and cabins only, so how much of this is true? As far as the license goes all we need in addition to our state licence is a saltwater stamp as well? The shine wont be an issue either !!! Zoff, as far as when, I may have an opening next weekend, or we may take a day off and head toward Traveler's house. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted November 30, 2012 Author Super User Posted November 30, 2012 Zoff, I will get with you and see what dates are available by the first of the week. Traveler, Do you know of any other campgrounds that are in close proxy to that area? Quote
mudkart Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Pohick is another option, and they do allow camping trailers (and have all the necessary hookups). I've camped there overnight w/ the boat. I think there is a two vehicle limit per site. http://www.nvrpa.org/park/pohick_bay/ Quote
