i prefer a screw lock 5/0 for the ribbits myself. Usually a trokar or a gammy. I have never had to much luck using the double hook set up and i feel like i have to reel a little faster than i would like to keep the bait on the surface.

Seems like the single hook gets me a better hook up percentage than the two hook set up.

Stanley sells their own hook made for the frogs, and I have been using them for the past few seasons. Give it a try.

I prefer Mustad impact. They have a pin that i insert in the nose of the frog. I hold it in place with a drop of super glue. I like this set up because the pin does less damage to the frog on hit. Screw locks do hold good initially but once they pull out you are left with a hole. With the pin, the damage to the frog is minimal and a small drop of super glue and your back on the water.

I also use a Mustad keeper hook, size 4/0. I would not feel confident with the 3/0 that you're using.

I fish the BPS Humpin Toad, but I use a 5/0 EWG Magna hook, and never had a problem. Texas style rigging.

This is a little off subject but how in the world do you get any action from a ribbit. Threw one at Guntersville this year and the things just push water, no action what so ever. Ended up switching to a rage toad which should have been my first and only choice.

Discovered the Ribbit a few months ago. I found it worked well with a 4/0 Owner hook with screw in.

The color that worked for me was the Watermelon/red flake with pink bottom.

As to action, almost all of my hits have come in the lily pads as I kind of hop it along from one open area to another. In fact, I have never caught a fish just reeling it in and letting the legs flutter. So the action is plenty enough for me.

My hook up rate is not spectacular.....about 70%. But, I feel I always am a little quick on setting the hook. Takes me a few strikes to calm down and wait. Lots of strikes are when I let it fall about 6 inches, then work it back up to top.
