OR both. lol so i bought me some Tuff line 20 lb baid. descent price and made in USA. My first question is does 20 lb break super easy. i occasionly cast into a limb, nothing hardcore i give a lite tug, then a small jerk, line breaks, went through a pack of owners kept loosing them to breakoffs.. First off not a newb so i know my plamer knot isnt failing, i tied it the same knot for my frog and my cranking rod, hang-ups, no problems, get em loose. 2nd checked with a q-tip... fine no problem. my orginal line on this rod was 15 Ppro braid. it was steel, if was hung bad, it was me cutting the line. I am pretty sure it is the line.. what is your opnion on Tuff line, think I am gonna get some 832 line. Also not trying to be a smart@ss, but i do know the proper way on gettin un-hung, though i may not practice it al the time.. but after a whole pack of owners, sheesh

ps.. on a 30 size reel what is the highest braid i could get away. 30 or 40 lb.

I don't know nothin bout no Tuff line, but 20# line that has no damage to it or a bad knot should take some serious effort to break.

Might be just getting cut easily. You have to remember, braid, especially thin braid, is easily abrased. Think about it, how easy is it to cut with a knife, but you cant pull it to break it. Just a thought for you.

i know it aint that tough, but i never had this with the 15 PP, i get that it is low lb test.. just it is odd i have been loosing that much

20# PP breaks around 36# which is pretty much in the middle of the pack and it isn't to break, I know nothing about Tuff Line. On my 30 size reel I use 15# PP, 20# would probably be ok too but that would be my max. I fish over lots of rocks and coral reefs, using a leader I seldom get my braid abraded. Sounds like going back to PP or some other well known line may be the solution, I personally don't favor 1 name brand over another.

Well I just got inside, was outside messing around, with some old bps hooks and some crappy gander worms I went to the back of our property and got hung on purpose. Twice the line just broke midway in air,not even at the hook. I loosed up and in the dip mid-air is we're it seemed to break. You know how you give slack then tighten back. Broke midway everytime. Hope that makes since. Bet the neighbors thought I was crazy. 15 lb 832 all the way

Why are you still "testing" the line?

Get something else and throw that junk away!

I use 30# Fireline Fusion. This stuff is crazy tuff. Ill staighten out a superline hook when I wrap my hand in a bandana and pull SUPER hard. Ive had nicks and frays in it and its still like a steel choker. I used to use 832 but its overpriced IMO. After reading some studies on the actual breaking point of many lines I decided to go with Fireline. Ill use this line for applications where I need braid for the rest of my life.

I wouldn't say that's major, you can get PP at walmart for like $12.50

both of your posts have sounded negative Tom, did I tick you off or somthing.

Regardless, braid isn't known for being abrasion resistant

I am a collge student, so if somthing is a quarter off, it is major to me

If I'm not wrong, Fish Chris like Tuf Line braid.. He catches plenty of big fish.

Just as important, if not more so than line strength, is reel line capacity and good helmsmanship to chase a fish down, but that's for much larger fish. I would negate what I just typed regarding the average fish most of us catch on a daily basis, whether it be bass or inshore fish. I don't believe anything extra ordinary is of paramount concern, use your drag, play the fish, and fish can be landed with lines that are not the highest on the strength list.
