Bayoubassin8 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I walk around to the ponds around my neighborhood and a single clear Plano box is cumbersome. I need a tackle bag that can carry enough baits for about 5 ponds and that is light. Any suggestions? Quote
Bayoubassin8 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Does the backpack become too "fat" or cumbersome if u have 370s Quote
Arv Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I've put up to four 3600's in my bag + 10-15 soft plastic bags (just what they come in from the store). Its much more comfortable with 3 boxes, but I usually wind up putting it down, fishing a stretch out and back, pick it up and move on down the line. Its not anything specific for fishing either, just a camo field and stream bag from dick's. Quote

Topwaterspook Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I too use a backpack. Most times I also wear a pair of carpenter pants with a hammer loop. That loop and a velcro strip sewn to the side of my backpack allow me to carry an extra rod hands free. Quote
Super User Marty Posted September 25, 2012 Super User Posted September 25, 2012 I always preferred a shoulder bag. While holding a fish with my left hand I can get anything I need from the bag with my right hand, such as pliers, tape measure, scale or whatever. I use a Cabela's bag but the bag size and pocket configuration which suited my needs superseded brand consideration. Quote
mikey5string Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I use one water proof 3740 plano box in a backpack when I am shore fishing. I also carry a "wallet" type case about the size of a CD wallet for spinnerbaits & buzzbaits. I throw a few bags of plastics in there and I am ready to go. The thing about a backpack is that you have to take it on and off every time you want to access the contents. Usually I will find a spot, take out the plano box and leave it on the ground for easier access then put it in the pack when I move. I have found that I usually stick to 3 or 4 baits so the whole big plano box is really unnecessary. I have a belt type pack that holds a small box that fits about 6-8 lures and some terminal tackle. It also has pockets for pliers/tools and a few bags of pastics. Something like this: http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/fishing-products/ If you get an idea of the water youre fishing and choose a strategy, you can really narrow down your bait selection. There isnt much a selection of bullet weights, hooks and plastics cant conquer. Quote
gramps50 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I have a Plano 3600 bag that I really like. I can change out the cases to suit what I am doing that day. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Tackle-Storage/Tackle-Bags|/pc/104793480/c/104777280/sc/104619780/Plano174-Softsider8482-Tackle-Bags/1306826.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffishing-tackle-storage-tackle-bags%2F_%2FN-1100378%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104619780%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104793480%253Bcat104777280&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104793480%3Bcat104777280%3Bcat104619780 I also have some small Plano boxes that I can carry in the cargo pockets of my cargo pants that I use sometimes too. fishking247 Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Here's a suggestion. http://www.basspro.c...SSELL_THUMBNAIL nice looking bag but i would not want to carry that around all day. I carry a cheap shoulder bag i bought at dicks sporting goods for $10. it is just big enough to fill a 3600 plano with hooks, sinkers, and hardbaits. i keep my plastics in the original bags and throw em in with the plano. no need to bring 100 lures and 50 bags of plastics Quote
Sundance Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I use a $7 camo backpack from Walmart. I can fit 2 370s in the main compartment and a bps plastics binder in the smaller front compartment. Quote
Super User deep Posted September 28, 2012 Super User Posted September 28, 2012 My pocket is my tacklebag lol. I bought a fanny pack recently though, to carry a camera and a scale. Quote
Goose21 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I fish a t-rig 99% of the time when bank fishing, as long as the brush/cover is minimal I will throw a jig occasionally. That being said I typically bring no more than a zoom trick worm soft plastic bag that slides right in my pocket. I'll bring two extra t-rig outfits, three or so different types of plastics and a couple of jigs. Lately the shallow crank bite has been good at dawn and then dusk so I'll bring a balsa square bill Quote
JigMe Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I use this http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Tackle-Storage/Tackle-Bags%7C/pc/104793480/c/104777280/sc/104619780/Cabelas-XPGreg-Pro-Series8482-Angler-Pack/704805.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FN%3D1100378%26WTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104793480%253Bcat104777280&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104793480%3Bcat104777280%3Bcat104619780 Or a fly fishing vest would do the trick as well Quote
West Coast Bass Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 one thing that has helped me a lot would be to make a day box of all hard baits/jigs/spinnerbaits/terminal tackle and to also have a small container for your plastics you could see yourself throwing that day. i like to use the waterproof blue plano because it is the perfect size for everything. bassego on here makes fun of me because of it but i use an old five star pencil case from back when and it expands open (easily holds about 12 bags of plastics, wacky o tool, and smelly jelly) especially on the kayak where space is everything. hope that helps. it will definitely allow you to game plan for the day at hand instead of being overwhelmed on the water. i have about three backpacks i switch off between boat/shore/ and kayak. moguy1973 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I use one of these: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Flambeau-AZ3-Light-Soft-Tackle-Bag/16326924 I didn't pay $30 for mine though, I think it was more around $15. It holds three small boxes, has lots of pockets for bags of plastics and is nice and small for throwing over one shoulder...Hardly know it's there most of the time although it's getting way too full of stuff I don't use much anymore... Super User Fishes in trees Posted September 29, 2012 Super User Posted September 29, 2012 Back in the day when I was bank bound and money was an issue I went to the Salvation Army thrift store and got the largest womens purse I could find. It held a few 3600 size boxes, a dozen jars of pork bait and various other stuff I felt I needed. I paid less than $3 for it, I didn't care how dirty it got and as an added bonus it was in a neon green & black zebra stripe so I wasn't concerned that anyone would steal it from me. I found a bag that I could just throw down on the bank easier to deal with than a back pack. Quote
