Redtail Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 My sunglasses are at the bottom of my favorite pond and I'm looking for a new pair. I would like to get one pair with one colored lens that would work in most situations. I fish in a shallow pond, relatively clear water, with many large rocks. Don't want to break the bank too much. Any suggestions! Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Although i know they are cheap i use a pair from walmart. It says SC on the side of the glasses and they are polarized. You find them in the sunglasses section by the jewelry dept. cost about $20. I have the brown tinted and regular tint. Brown seems to work the best. If you are like me, i refuse to spend alot of money on glasses due to the fact that i lose them/break them on a regular basis and these seem like a good choice/alternative. Hope this helps!! Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted February 11, 2010 Super User Posted February 11, 2010 Check out Solar Bat glasses. They have a high end and a low end and glaaes in between. Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 11, 2010 Super User Posted February 11, 2010 Try to find an Under Armour or Oakley outlet store. Bassinajr and I have pretty much stolen some amazing glasses from there. I got my Under Armour polarized ones for $60 and at the local Dick's Sporting Goods they are $210. I know AJR has found $300 Oakley's at the Oakley store for around a third of that. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I think the best general purpose lens color is amber. Quote
FL Knifemaker Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I find the cheap glasses at Walmart have rather poor quality lenses. They are actually cloudy. We keep a few pairs on the boat for spares but for everyday use, I can't stand them. I need a mild prescription so I have my local eyeglass place make polarized lenses for my Titanium Oakley XX's They can tint them however I want them. They can also polish off the tint and refinish them at N/C which really beats buying a new set when they start to get scratched. The lenses they make are just as good if not better than the Oakley lenses. I can see OK through both but the mild prescription lens really make things sharp. Quote
bobbyc Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I have a pair of Oakley polarized made in my perscription that are very good, however, i also have a pair of BPS 'Jimmy Houston' polarized that are wonderful for fishing. $230 vs. $14.95 Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 i have 2 pairs of oakley gascans polarized one in dark lense and other in an amber lense...I love my amber lenses!! 8-) Quote
Smiths.R Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Oakley is the way to go. You get what you pay for...Don't buy the garbage from Walmart. If you never spend the money, you'll always loose/break them. Amber is the way to go. Quote
bcody Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I bought a used pair of Costa's for $70 on a forum and I love them. If you look hard enough, you can find deals. Quote
BassnMan Mike Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I recently did an indepth write up concerning shades on my site, http://bassnman.com/fishing-gear/sunglasses-which-ones-are-right-for-me/ Quote
bass or bass ? Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I use Cocoons Aviators with copper color lenses and love them. Copper cuts water glare best, next is amber, then gray. Quote

XLFISH Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Glasses are tools of the trade. Several good points here from you guys. You get what you pay for. People always say I loose or break my glasses. Well not if you shell out a days pay for them. Cheap glasses are just that, cheap. If you spend alot of time on the water glasses are an investment. You need polarized lenses. You need something that provides 100% UV protection. Ultra violet rays can cause malecular degeneration (not sure of spelling) which is the leading cause of blindness. UV rays can also cause cataracts. You need a pair of shades that also provide a shatterproof lens. How about a life time waranty? How about hand made in Florida? How about real live english speaking people on the line when you call? The list goes on and on. You get it all from Costa Del Mar. I cringed when I dropped the $ for my first pair but seven years later I still love those shades and I bought a couple of more pairs. Check them out online. Tools of the trade and a life time investment. Quote
bwillis Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I picked up a pair of berkley sunglasses at walmart for $5 and they worked pretty well until I lost them. Quote
VABassin'14 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 I recently bought a pair of Natives. I got them with brown lenses and they are amazing. They never fog up, and have a life time replacement guarantee. If I had to do it again, I would without a doubt. Quote
Bigs Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Oakley has the best optics by far. The coast guard did an unbiased test a few years ago on a bunch of brands and oakley was by far the best. The best lenses imo are the "shallow blue" They are for what else, fishing shallow like us bass anglers fish. They work well for deep water too but its tough to see much in deep water to begin with. I wouldnt fish with anything else then my oakley monster dogs. Quote

SkilletSizeBass. Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 They are not to cheap, but I really like my costa del mar fathoms 580 dark miror lens. If your thinking about a new reel check out BPS for any specials they have where you get a free pair of wiley-x when you order a abu garcia reel. Quote
Eternal Angler Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I need to get a pair too, just make sure you ket a string this time that you can attach the sunglasses. Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 This is going to be unpopular but here I go. I have a pair of two year old Triple Tail Costas with green mirrored lenses ($189) that I like but don't love. The glass lenses are clearer than anything else that I have worn but they do not allow me to see down into the water any better than a pair of $40 Bolle sunglasses I have. If you are buying them just to see down in the water the Bolles do the job just as well. The glass lenses are heavier but are a little clearer (opinion). I have also had to have them repaired twice. Once for the frame paint coming off and once for the lense material messing up. This has cost me another $20 or so. In my opinion if you pay almost $200 for glasses they shouldn't be tearing up every year. I also have a pair of Costas that I bought that have three different sets of plastics lenses that I can change in and out. I lOVE these. I like the bright yellow lenses (not sure of the name). The tint makes greens really pop and makes everything look brighter. They are perfect for dusk and dawn. I bought them on sale for $60 from sierra trading post. If I had to buy another pair I would not spend $100 plus dollars for a pair of Costas as I don't think they are worth it. If you can find a deal then they are. sportsmansguide.com has Wiley X glasses on sale for about $30. This also lets you know about how much they are really worth! Ha! Quote

They just dont have the edge that my Costas do. Quote
