TNBassin' Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I never really caught much on lipless cranks, namely Rat L Traps, but I picked a few of these up last week and fished them hard yesterday. All I can say is wow. I boated 4 nice ones, and 3 little guys yesterday, while all of my soft plastic using friends got zilch. I found a few nice spots where bait fish were scattering the surface EVERYWHERE, and casted as far past them as I could, and that's when the fun started. I was letting it fall then ripping it, and repeating. Great, great lure. Can't believe I have never picked any up before now. What's the best way to fish them? 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 20, 2012 Super User Posted September 20, 2012 Just the way you fished it! Quote

Jake P Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Hey good to know! I'm quickly becoming a Strike King fan. I fish sk amost exclusively now. Not because I am brand loyal but because I always have success with sk products.Like RW said, just the way you are fishing them. they are hard to fish wrong. Just let the fish tell you. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 By far, SK's Rage Tail line has some of the best plastics I've ever used. Now these red eye shad seem to be kicking butt too. What colors for these do you guys recommend ? Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 20, 2012 Super User Posted September 20, 2012 Anything in a craw color, smoke or chrome has produced for me. I fish some dirty waters here but even in clear, those have worked. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 I definitely need a craw color, and I just ordered one in East TX Special, and chrome sexy shad. I wanna pick up green gizzard shad definitely and probably chrome/black. Most of mine are variations of sexy shad though. Yesterday I was using chartreuse shad and was burning them up. It looks like a purple/pearl-essence in the water. Really eye catching. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted September 20, 2012 Super User Posted September 20, 2012 I love the craw colors and the more natural selections. I'm not big on throwing super bright fluorescent colors. Only on certain occasions, so most of my SK Red Eyes and cranks are pretty natural. The squarebills are money too. I have a hard time deciding on whether I want to throw those or the Red Eyes. Red Eyes probably produce most fish for me though. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 Our lake has some pretty murky water. I'd say you can see maybe 3 feet down, and that's it. I have one in blue gill color that I was gonna use yesterday, but chartreuse sexy shad was killing them. I need to get some square bills. Probably the one type of crank I don't have enough of. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 20, 2012 Super User Posted September 20, 2012 I have yet to buy em as I haven't seen any reviews on them. I will try some payday. I also have about 15 of the Cordell craw and chrome colored rattle traps i bought at academy on sale for 88 cents a pop to burn up first Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 I may go to Academy this weekend. I got some good deals online from them, but there doesn't seem to be much on sale anymore. Hopefully in store is a different story, as I really wanna pick up another vendetta on the cheap. I waited too long to order one while they had them on sale online. Quote

I waited too long to order one while they had them on sale online. I was there this morning after work getting some propane. Mine, didnt have the rods on sale in store. However their Big Bite plastics are still on sale. 6 pack stick baits for 44 cents. 10 pack Zoom plastics for 88 cents. There is a few left, but I have cleaned house. The manager is suppose to call me when they have another big one. Said it will be before winter. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 20, 2012 Author Posted September 20, 2012 I just sold my SX to my buddy, so I may go on a lure spending spree tomorrow. I have had a love/hate relationship with that reel ever since I bought it. After fishing with my S, there just was no going back to that reel lol. TW has big bite baits on sale for $1.49. Those Kriet Tail worms are pretty awesome, especially the 10'. Got some of those and some more squirrel tails for shakey heads. Quote
RyneB Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 the bluegill color is my go to. Followed by sexy shad, Ayu, orange craw, and gizzard shad. One of my fishing buddies fishes the Oyster color. He has a whole tackle box full of that color. He will fish that all day everyday. Its ugly, but he catches them. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I want oyster and the Pearl color. I have bleeding gizzard shad I have yet to try but that should work well in our local lake. Quote
Jake P Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Buy some kvd 1.5 & 2.5 square bills. You will instantly become addicted. They're incredible. Quote

I was looking at buying one used after Christmas for a pitching reel to move one of my STX's over to a Texas rig rod. TW has the big bite 4 1/2" tubes on sale for 2 bucks or less too. Of course you could always get another S lol Quote
