buzzfrog Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 is it that easy, lol if you have some knowledge of bass fishing. a few "net" buddies live there or vaction there all the time. punching/pitchin/flippin/frog/lipess ripped. That is all i hear. I mean is it, fishing stories when you here people say yep, 3 is small, 6 is right. I know ish blew the doors down with his catch. I somtimes notice members who live in Florida, there personal best is always close to 8-11 lbs. (no i havent looked at all, lol) I just gotta know.. I seen some pics, but if you get on the right spot, is it really toad heaven? Quote
George Welcome Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 It most certainly is Bass fishing paradise. Quote
BrettD Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 The fish in my avatar is 9-2 and I caught in a 5 acre golf course pond. I have caught 5 over 8# this year in golf course ponds alone. You still have to put the time in to catch them. I fish 4-5 days a week in the afternoons for about an hour. You can catch a 8#+ in just about any body of water large or small. A couple of weeks ago my father and I caught 75 fish and the avg size was around 2.5-3lbs with about a dozen around 4# and several around 6lbs. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted September 20, 2012 Super User Posted September 20, 2012 Yes, they get pretty fat round here. The food is almost endless down here between snakes, lizards, frogs, birds, rats, and the list goes on. Nothin beats the swamps of S Fl. Quote
Highhawk1948 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 In the picture to the left is a 7 pound Bass. I was teaching a young lad how to bass fish and we had been throwing worms along a grass line, we had caught 4 or 5 fish that weighed about a pound each. Having fun. He wanted to know how we could catch larger fish. I told him two ways, flipping heavy cover, and fishing deep. We started flipping the same grass line and in 15 minutes he caught a 3 pounder and I caught the 7 pound even. Bass can grow year around in Florida and you have a good chance to catch some big fish, and if you really fish alot you will have more than one 8 plus on, now you might not get it in the boat but you will get bit. Best I ever did, 1975, on Lake Griffen, was a 10 fish limit with the smallest 5 pounds, largest 10.4. (I believe it was February). Still have the newpaper article somewhere. No, not in a tournament. BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 21, 2012 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 21, 2012 The pic to the left is my youngest with a 7 pounder her PB caught last year. We are at the point now that nothing smaller than 5 lbs even gets a picture. Quote
gar-tracker Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 <----- Thats a 9 3/4 that was only about 20 inch's long, it had a 5 inch top spread. Yes its Hog Heaven. Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Florida strain bass have a metabolism like no other. Quote
Shane Procell Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 It can be phenominal at times. Like one of the guys above said, the fish grow all year and the food source is unlimited. Quote
buzzfrog Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 All I gotta say is congrats. At least I know we're my next vacation will be.. A 3 lb is pretty nice in my lake. I have seem 6 pictures of bass seven lbs and up but that has been over a 10 year span lol Quote
1234567 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Dont vacation in Lee County, Fort Myers area, they have effectively closed most accessible fishing areas to the public. If you have a boat visit near the desired areas like central florida or Lake O. Quote
Highhawk1948 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Fish central Florida in January, February, March in the canals, pads, and other spawning areas, you will hook a big'un. Just hope the cold fronts don't hit too often and turn them off. Its best to have 3 stable days of weather. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 21, 2012 Super User Posted September 21, 2012 In my part of Florida without a boat you are limited, but there are options like the Atlantic Ocean. 1 Quote
buzzfrog Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 if we would go or when i go, id hire a guide, Quote
tennsopher Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 What seems to amaze people when they first visit here,is the amount of lakes that are here.I have yet to find one that didn't contain bass. Most have large fish in them but to catch them you have to do your homework.Typical baitfish are golden shiners ,talapia, and shad.Of course you also have frogs, snakes and crayfish.Fish the flats close to where the water drops off and pay attention to what forage is there.Go to **** and take a look. There are 361 lakes here in Orange Co. alone that is where I live and do most of my fishing. Quote
Shane Procell Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Florida has over 30,000 lakes. Of those 30,000 lakes there are 7,700 over 10 acres. We also have over 11,000 miles of rivers and waterways. Combine all that fishy water and warm to mild weather and you have alot of happy fishermen. 1 Quote
JoePhish Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 If it rains and a puddle is there the next day there is probably a bass in it. Seriously though, I always get, "You caught THAT fish out of this pond?" Not only are there bass everywhere but we get to fish for them year round. I love living down here and bass fishing is a big part of the reason why. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted October 4, 2012 Super User Posted October 4, 2012 Today Mike and I went out and it was HAWG heaven, we could do no wrong. 3 to 4lbers were annoying to catch, cause they kept getting in the way of bertha! Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Does anyone know about any good bass guides in the north palm beach or west palm beach area...(an our away is fine) I haven't fished there for bass since i was 6 years old and i caught a 5 lb 3 oz my PB. When I travel there every february I fish in intercoastal waterways for saltwater species... any body have any suggestions? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 4, 2012 Super User Posted October 4, 2012 @ jitterbugger, February is a much better month to be bass fishing, winter is the slow time for saltwater, especially in the ICW. Quote
