Took my new Revo S out on the water all day, and the reel flat out kicks butt. The only issue I'm having, is the thumb bar has what I consider to have excessive play on the right side. Basically when I go to cast, the right side of the bar goes down a bit before the spool is disengaged. Is there any way to fix this my self, or should I exchange it out?

It sounds like your spring that holds the thumb bar in place has come loose or broken. pull the side plate and check it out.

I use a lefty reel, so my issue is on the brake side. I pulled the brake side plate, and can see the tab of the thumb bar that runs in a "guide". It's almost like that guide is wider than it should be. Probably just swap it out.

A picture would help too. But ya man if you have a BP near by I'd say just grab another.

You have had some crappy Abu luck as of late. Hope it doesn't steer you away.

I will check with them today and see if they have any. To see what I'm talking about remove your sideplate with the brakes. Then u can see where the thumb bar is integrated in with the frame. This is where I have the play. Will basspro do an in store exchange on a 6 pay item?

Hummm. I will have to check mine when I get off work. I know mine feels solid. I checked everything yesterday when I deep cleaned all my reels and didn't notice play.

I wouldn't see why they wouldn't. It's a BP purchased product. You can always call then and ask first.

I checked with their online support, and they will do a straight exchange in store. Just not a refund, which is fine. Now I just hope our store has them in stock. If not, I'm gonna use 6 pay and get an STX and order a Villain rod from TW. I don't NEED the STX, but I'm so d**n impressed by the S I can't help but wonder how much better the stx is lol. We'll see.

BPS swapped it out for me, and the new one doesn't have this issue thankfully. Rock, that nub all the way to the right what was seemingly too loose in that track or guide it runs in wasn't tight enough. So you could actually have one side of the thumb bar go down a bit before the spool was disengaged. Hopefully this new one won't acquire this issue with use, or I will dump it for good. Glad I got it taken care of, because this reel is pretty amazing. I was throwing 1/2oz red eye shad a mile, and even lighter baits were out casting my gen 2 revo sx. I never even touched the brakes, just made sure my spool tension was where it should be and then gradually backed it off to balance out distance and spool control. The Veritas is also pretty d**n amazing. I could actually feel and hear the red eye shad rattling through the rod! Crazy awesome set up.

I recently repaired a Revo with a binding thumbar (previous gen but same design) It's an easy fix but if it's warrantied just swap it

What exactly causes the issue? My Revo S was new out of the box, and yesterday was the first day I used it, so it couldn't have been wear and tear.

The break in tolerances, as the reel starts to break in, tolerances change.

If yours wasn't binding, i'll bet just got lose on one side of the set plate.... :Victory:

Tight Lines! :fishing1:

Me too. I hate going through the hassle of returning items, but if I have any more issues I will probably try one more before I return it. I really like the reel, and the feel of the whole set up so hopefully I just got a bad one and this isn't going to be a recurring issue. Just keep an eye on your thumb bar, and make sure it doesn't move until you fully press the thumb bar.

Will do. I have mine apart and checking the springs and plastic for any cracks or breaks. So far it looks solid. I've been looking on the net for reviews to see if any people are having issues, but so far, mine is the only one lol

I don't know what caused my issue. My black max and revo sx are fine and they have some pretty heavy use. I guess I just got a dud. On the brake side it looks like the thumb bar is just held onto the frame with that nub and guide all the way to the right of your picture. Not sure if there are any other pieces that contribute to the strength or function of the thumb bar on that side, but mine definitely had an issue. I could take the thumb bar and LIGHTLY wiggle it up and down on one side and have it move pretty far. I was afraid that if I kept using it, it would bend or break something on the other side. Glad I got it replaced.

In the case I mentioned the culprit was the thumbar spacers which is a little plastic shim with a slot for the lever. It shouldn't be a wear item but if it's a little off from production it would probably have been a problem latter.

Bingo! I just got a new STX and had the same issue only it was less severe. I took a small piece of 8lb mono and put it between the spacer and the frame of the reel. That took out nearly all of the play without making it overly tight.

I agree. It was more of a case of me being picky, as there was a normal amount of give to one side, but it bugged me so i fixed it. My S had way too much movement though. Maybe the newer batches will be better.
