Hey guys the get together was a lot of fun. I really look forward to the next one.

My fiancee wanted to go fishing today so I decided to take her to melvern since I knew if nothing else, we could catch some at the dam. All we had for a boat was my 15' john boat with 2 trolling motors so we launched from the marina and stuck to the few coves near the marina and then ventured to the dam. The way today started out, I figured it was going to be exactly like yesterday with wind and bright blue skies so the fishing may be slow. That was until the clouds rolled in. I decided to throw a spinnerbait for a while and after about ten minutes landed this beauty.

She weighed 4.98lbs and measured 20" even.

Tough to tell from the picture, but she destroyed my spinnerbait. Not only did she straighten the wire (expected), she also bent the wire where it enters the jighead so the hole enlarged and now wiggles. Oh well I would gladly trade a bait for nice fish like that. Too bad I caught her a day late :dazed-7:

Damm I quit throwing a spinnerbait after 15 minutes during the tourney cause i was just catching a bunch of whites. Never thought you could catch a smallie that big on one. Helluva Fish! Glad you got some good pictures of her.

I wish I would have signed up sooner to get in on this. I have a kayak, but would have loved to try and best some of yalls catch. Read through the whole post and got some good info. THANKS!!!! Got to try a Ned rig.

I live near Wichita, so Melvern is prime and closest Smallie waters.

I guess I'll go ahead and post some of my pictures from the get together now. Our computers hard drive got fried during a storm about a week ago and then with the move we haven't even been able to use our laptop.

Chris with our first fish of the day and looking like he just rolled out of bed. 16 3/4" largemouth on a KVD 1.0.

Chris with a super chunky smallmouth on a Ned or a tube, can't remember which.

I think this was the first fish I caught on my 1/16oz shakyhead and Stick O and when I started to figure them out a little better.

Got momentarily distracted by this guy cruising the bank, hard for me to pass up an easy shot and fun fight :respect-059:

Our biggest of the day, 17.5" on the shakyhead and stick O off the dam about half an hour before weigh in.
