rboat Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 I know these are big lures at almost 6" and designed to catch muskies, but could they work for LMB, or are they simply just too large? has anyone used one successfully for bass fishing? Just figured I would ask before purchasing another lure that will not work like I had hoped. Thanks. Quote
Super User Marty Posted September 15, 2012 Super User Posted September 15, 2012 I'm not familiar with the lure, but I have little doubt that some bass would take it. After all, when you have fish like the one below taking stuff almost as big as them, I'm sure decent sized bass would take a 6" lure. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 16, 2012 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2012 The super shad rap is a beefy bait. I'm sure bass will hit it but I think you might be better off just buying a regular 6" swimbait. If you're in toothy critter territory you might try a ABT Banshee swimbait instead. It has a great swimming action, doesn't take specialized gear to fish, and isn't too expensive. They come in some great, lifelike colors also and come in a 4.5", 6", or 8" sizes. Quote
Quillback Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Hey Bluebasser, I was reading the reviews on TW of the Banshee shad and several people complain that it does not cast well, that it "helicopters". Have you had any issues casting it? I've got a couple of ABT Hybrid shads, they're 3.5", so they don't meet the 6" size of the Rapala, but they cast well, have great action, and I've even caught a few bass on them. Very realistic paint jobs also. Quote

I find if I do more of a lob casts instead of trying to fire it like a normal crankbait it doesn't do it as bad, I'm using the 6" version. I'm guessing most guys are trying to really fire it out there and the extra force is causing it to spin out. Quote
