hawghunter00 Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 there are so many jig heads for different techniques. i wish there was a simpler way instead of buying 5 different heads. i use the alien head most of the time unless i am fishing into rocks and then i use a football. if you could only fish 1 for the rest of your life what would it be? what is the most versatile head out there? i have seen an arky head on seibertoutdoors site that some of you guys recommend. it looks pretty good but i havent had a chance to buy them yet. BenBassmaster Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 This is what i have learned from Glenn May, I'll post some videos about the jig heads in a minute. My favorites is the Football head, but Arkie is the most all-around jig head. Quote
gobig Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 If I had to choose one I would go with the head design like the CA Swimjig. Its kind of a cross between a arkie head and a grass jig. For those of you who know the North Star baits its like the flip/swim. Quote
Arv Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Like mentioned above, I feel like arkie heads are the most versatile. It cuts through grass/weeds nicely and does a good job dragged over structure. Its not my choice to swim but it can get away doing that. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 16, 2012 Global Moderator Posted September 16, 2012 Brush! X2, works in all kinds of cover, can be flipped, cast, or used as a swim jig. 1 Quote
matstone7 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 X2, works in all kinds of cover, can be flipped, cast, or used as a swim jig. Me too. Besides the reasons above, the brush jig presents trailer in defensive position. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted September 16, 2012 Super User Posted September 16, 2012 I like the poison tail best. I had arke and football molds. I sold them after I started using poison tail jig heads. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 The number one jig I fish anymore is the Brush head. Once in awhile I will fish a Poisen, finesse or football. Quote

Super User deep Posted September 16, 2012 Super User Posted September 16, 2012 Brush and/ or grass. Quote
mikey5string Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 megastrike shake2 shakey head in 1/2oz for everything but heavy grass. In that case I use a pegged texas rig with a tungsten weight and a punch skirt. Quote
merc1997 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 there is one jighead on the market that truly will fish through rocks, brush, or vegetation. no need to have 5 or 6 different types of jigs. bo Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted September 22, 2012 Super User Posted September 22, 2012 After reading Denny Brauer's book, I can understand why he designed the SK Denny Brauer Pro Premium jig, that is a nice versatile jig. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 23, 2012 Super User Posted September 23, 2012 I have a brush jig mold made by Do-It , if interested PM me, I like to sell it. There is a reason for so many jig head types, most are trying in vain to resolve the problem consistantly hook sets. Tom PS; check out the Horizontal jigging thread. Quote

The jig I made back in '71 is that jig for me. I can fish it in deep rocky structure for days without snagging in rocks, the only time I break it off is in wood if I don't add a weed guard (see Horizontal jigging). If you consider the number of big bass over 10 lbs that managed to get this jig stuck into their mouths over the past 40 years, allowing me to get a good hook set and catch those bass, I don't believe any other jig comes close to being the perfect jig* for fishing deep rocky structure lakes. The problem is my jig is not available for sale. One reason it has limited application as a casting jig in rocky structure with light cover and very few bass anglers fish a jig the way I do. This simple fact my jig has let me target giant bass that know one else fishes for except live crawdad anglers. Tom *Bo's jig may change that and is available. I will give them a try this pre spawn. Big-O Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Brush style head is the most versatile IMO... Quote
