Hello all,

in your opinion, what is the best hard swimbait for < $40?  Does it have good action? realistic paint job?

Hmmm, this might sound goofy, but the BBZ 6" trout hardbaits are a good deal at under 25.00. At the moment, I can't think of any good hardbaits I'd want in the 40.00 range..most are more than that, i.e. CL8's ect.

I think I'm spoiled by Mattlures. His detail blows that away in my opinion. I know they work (Dan crushes them with it) but I just don't think they look good.

They're lathed dowels with hooks hanging from them...they look like crap compared to some other swimbaits but I'll be damned if they don't catch fish.

Matts baits are awesome, but I think even he would agree with me on how effective the Slammer is.

What color do you use Dan?

The BBZ-1 6" swimbait was highlighted on one of the fishing shows last week. Lots of underwater coverage of it's action. It really impressed me. And they were catching decent sized smallies on it!

Being not as heavy as some (I think it was about 2 oz.), they were casting it on regular baitcasting rigs. I'm going to pick one up. Only $20.00 too.  :D

The BBZ 6 inch is hard to beat for the $20.00 price tag. They do catch fish and while there are better baits out there, expect to pay considerably more.

I like the Trout and Shad in slow sink.

This is the only "big" swimbait I've used but I LOVE it. I have the 3 piece model though.

I have both, but I prefer the original single jointed model. The 9" Dark Trout is one of my all time favorite baits.

The only reason I ended up with the X2 is because TW didn't have any of the single jointed baits in the colors I wanted at the time. I'll try the single jointed bait eventually...probably one of the giant ones

which ones do you like more?

I like both the Trout and Shad depending on what the bass are keying on at the time. The reason I like the slow sink is because you can wake them as well as fish them deep. In my opinion, the best of both worlds and like I said, its hard to beat the price.

By the way, I agree with you that the Matt Lures are great. The Hard Bass is difficult to beat when they are keying on bass, shhhh, thats a secret.

Where I fish, we have trout that are stocked by the DFG, so it makes sense to me to use the rainbow trout slowsink, as I agree with Mike that the slowsink is pretty versetile, you can pretty much fish it at any depth.

Wouldn't this be another thread..? as not to go OT from OP question.. :D

I meant which baits do you prefer more than the bbz?

We don't even have trout where I fish them and the bass still love the trout patterns.

I do have a Slammer. I dont use it much because I use my own baits but.......Biz is right. The Slammer is a classic and proven. I recomend it just from everybody who swears by them.

The original post asked for $40.00 and under Hard Baits. For the over $40.00 hard lures, when they are keying on bass, like I stated, I like the Matt Lures Hard Bass. When they are keying on trout I like the 3:16 Free Style and Real Deal but they are very expensive. For soft trout swim baits its hard to beat the Hudds but the Matt Lures are also an excellent choice.

The only two I use much are Mattlures Woody and a sebile in the smaller sizes. All the rest of mine are fifty dollars plus.
