justfishin Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I use clear Torpedoes on some of the gin clear lakes around here. I have used them for years and they are killers on brown and green bass. I use them in the " Tiny Torpedo " as well as the regular size. I always liked prop baits but, the clear one in clear water works well. What say you my friends? Quote
RottManK9 Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 I love my tiny torpedoes. I use them in Chrome and the Frog pattern. They are absolutely killer when the top water bite is on. I've never taken it out of the box and not brought a fish in on it!!! Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 11, 2007 Super User Posted March 11, 2007 I've never seen a clear Torpedo. Quote
justfishin Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 Thats because they are clear Burley, lol. My buddie bought a case of them about 6 or 7 years ago at a fishing flea market. I would not use them at first but, tried them on gin clear lakes and they work well. Go figure. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 This a link for them from BassPro http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2912_100005003_100000000_100005000__?hvarTarget=browse&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=5&CMID=&hvarDept=100&pageView=image&hvarTextId=2912&hvarSubCode=3&jumpToPage=1¤tPage=0 Quote
HPBB Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 "TORPEDOES" my favorate top water bait. I love Torpedoes. Have about 50+. all colors and sizes. That being said I use the baby (bigger one) 99% of the time in Nat frog. I have a rod reel set up that is a Torpedo only rod. Has "torp rod" written on it. I have used the littler ones, but have way more luck with the baby ones. tried the magum yet? have not caught a fish on them yet. I have caught many many fish on torpedoes right out of the box, but over the years I have modified them a little. now as soon as I buy one I mod it some to my specs. LM & SM just smash them, have caught a lot of Muskies and Pike on them to while fishing for bass Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 12, 2007 Super User Posted March 12, 2007 I'm thinking of buying a few but i heard that the trebles are not of good quality. Is there a need to change them? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 12, 2007 Super User Posted March 12, 2007 Heddon is notorious for bad hooks. I haven't changed any of the hooks on my (newer) Heddon baits, but I have been meaning to. Just a matter of getting the hooks. Don't let their hooks scare you away from them. The Baby and Tiny Torpedo are two of the best topwater baits made. I just wish they would put some better hooks on the baits, even if it did mean paying an extra 50 cents for the bait. Heck, look at the SPRO baits. They all feature Gamakatsu hooks and I've yet to see any of them (other than the big swimbait) cost more than $6 or 7. Quote
justfishin Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 Yes, I change hooks on them. I use Excalibers. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 13, 2007 Super User Posted March 13, 2007 OK you need to quit giving away all the secrets. Allen Quote
