I.rar Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I was thinking about picking up a stun gun for the wife and car. anyone have any suggestions? Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 16, 2012 Super User Posted September 16, 2012 Yea, save your money and have her learn defensive tactics. An attacker is going to be on her faster than she can respond with an electronic device. She has a better chance at defending herself if she knows a few tactical moves. "stun guns" dont permenantly stop an assailant. The "pain" is gone once contact is broken, only making the assailant p'd off and coming back for more. Pepper spray would be more affective. Quote

I.rar Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 thanks for the replies. pepper spray does seem the way to go. the fox 5.3 stuff seems pretty serious too.. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 18, 2012 Super User Posted September 18, 2012 A handgun would be better but to answer your question, there are a lot of stun guns on the market. I carry and love the X26. Its mega expensive, but it works. I have rode the lighting 3 times and there is no getting out of the pain. With standard tasers, the attacker can twist or turn and be free from the taser in a second. With the X26, provided she gets a good shot, the attacker has to ride the lighting for a full 5 seconds before it shuts off. She can also hold down the tigger and effectively have the attacker ride the lighting till the battery runs down. IT points, acts and shoots just like a handgun. Quote
I.rar Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 we have had the discussion of getting our CCW and carrying concealed but she just doesnt like the idea and im not going to force her. i plan on getting mine sometime in the future. the idea of the stun gun came up when we were approached at a stop light by a homeless man who looked to be hammered on dope asking for money. it didnt get out of control or anything but it was uncomfortable. pepper spray wouldnt of been a good idea in that situation either with our daughter in the car.. Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 19, 2012 Super User Posted September 19, 2012 An expandable baton would be good. Any women ticked off with a stick is a women to fear. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted September 19, 2012 Super User Posted September 19, 2012 The taser is only good while the probes are stuck to the person and the trigger is pulled. Once the 5 seconds is over, the pain is gone and the assailant is active again. She would have to pull the trigger again to activate the pain. I doubt she is going to stand there and keep reapplying the trigger. And I too have ridden the bolt. Quote

And why would a stun gun work. Lets see, drunk, homeless panhandler VS. sober family inside a 2000 pound car with windows rolled up. Hmmm, yea, I can see where you were in extreme danger and should have tased the dog snot out of him. Quote

Personally I like it but I'm crazy lol after getting shot with the one I put one probe in my shoe held the other in my hand did some daisy chains with a group of us liked together with the 2 end guys holding the probes. Been sprayed as well with over the counter stuff(drunk prank) and the stuff used my the military and police in all kinds of forms as part of a less lethal class they all suck. Quote

Thanks for your input though. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted September 26, 2012 Super User Posted September 26, 2012 Better than even chance you don't have the time to pull a hand or stun gun, a perp is coming out of the shadows with no warning, you've been mugged before you have seen them. Bassn was telling me that a perp with a knife can get you faster than you can pull out your piece within 21 feet, my neighbor a retried Indiana state trooper told me the same thing, and these guys are under constant training, not just a class. I see lots of homeless here in Florida, most of the time they are just sleeping under a bridge or in the bushes and want to be left alone. The cases I have heard about where a panhandler grabs a purse out of car, they just run away, let them have it or the car, all that stuff is replaceable. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 26, 2012 Super User Posted September 26, 2012 I have been following this thread with interest. I have been considering what "non-lethal" options are out there. I live in a rural area, and dogs are a much bigger threat than homeless drunks. I would prefer just being able to "train' the dogs to leave me alone over actually hurting them. SirSnook you and I have very different views regarding weapons, but I agree with you here. All of my stuff is replaceable and a fight over it is probably not going to happen. A physical attack on me or mine will be met with as much force as I can muster, but situational awareness and avoidance are my preferred defense. Quote
crownncoke04 Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Use pepper spray that video will come next lol Quote
