plaza80 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Does anyone the rough estimate of cost to repair a spinning reel? I have a reel given to me and brand new it cost $130ish. I think it must have been dropped in water or something and ball bearing system seems to get slightly locked up. Was wondering if it's worth it to fix. I guess anything under $50 would be worth it IMO but if repair and parts cost more than that maybe buying a used one would be better if I really wanted the same reel. Any input is appreciated. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 12, 2012 Super User Posted September 12, 2012 if it was only dunked in water then it just needs a good cleaning. Delaware valley tackle is a site sponser (the DVT logo on the right) and will clean your reel to like new. contact him for info. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Thank you for the referral. A deep cleaning and lube costs $22 less 10% for members here. Return shipping is equal to outbound. A reel in the price range noted should be well worth maintaining and using. Quote
Fontana Finesse Man Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Send it to DVT. Have sent them reels and always happy with the work and turnaround time! Prices are very fair. Plus if you are like me, you wonder why they put all the spare parts in a reel that you have left over! Quote
plaza80 Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Thanks for the reply. At this point I'm just assuming it got dipped in water but now I think the bearings some how went out or got bad. Can't even turn handle without forcing it. I was hoping to find a local shop in the twin cities MN. Quote

MichBassMan Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Mite be a long shot, but I've seen spinning reels with line wrapped under the spool that caused all kinds of havoc. Quote
