North Ga Hillbilly Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Dude its terrible around here. Bucket brigade everywhere. I caught one at my secret quarry spot and watched him put 2 three pounders in his bucket. I told him to throw them back, he refused so i kicked his bucket over into the water when he wasnt looking. I told him If i catch him again hes gonna have a problem. HAvent seen him since. Like I said I have no problemn if youre obeying the law but that quarry is my secret honey hole. Theres only 7 of us that fish it and we actively try and take care of it. We build cover with trees and 2x4', cinderblocks, we do selective harvest and its working. Im not about to let some ass nugget ruin our honey hole. Did you check if he had a fishing license? NGaHB

If the water is public anyone can fish it and take whatever they please with in the limits of the State's regulations, providing they have a license. It's admirable to improve a public area in hopes of enhancing your own fishing pleasure, but that does not mean other citizens are banned. Since I've read no mention of this being private property and by your own admission "Like I said I have no problemn if youre obeying the law, it appears that this fisherman was lawful and you were not by kicking over his catch and threatening him. If by accident you omitted a pertinent fact showing this fisherman was in violation, IMO does not give you the right to take the law into your hands. 5
cheezylotus Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 depends on the size, at Smith Lake there is a slot, so if im needing some fish, im keeping the unders, but i never keep an over. i throw them back and hopefully they will find their way back to my line come tourny time
Super User K_Mac Posted September 12, 2012 Super User Posted September 12, 2012 The idea of a public "secret honey hole" is funny! This conversation illustrates the passion that this discussion always has. It also shows clearly how easy it is to judge others based on our values. I completely agree with SirSnook regarding imposing ones beliefs on others. If a person keeps a bucket of legal fish while fishing at a public lake, it is none my or your business. Whether they speak English or not is none of my or your business. There are many of us who do not have a bucket, but if we did and someone kicked it over there would be trouble. If someone is doing something illegal, get the law involved; if not leave them alone. We don't have any idea what their circumstances are, and no right to give them any trouble. 1

I think thats what Bass assassin meant by his honeyhole? Hence, this guy getting his bucket kicked over should be a lesson. Some people just dont care until they're caught red handed. I would have done what you suggest and involved the authorities myself. Fines for trespassing are far worse than someone making the guy look like a fool and sending him home with an empty paint bucket.
Bob C Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I will usually keep 2 or 3 and fry them as soon as I get home. I also keep them happy in my live well. A fish that's been dead for a few hours isn't very good and I don't think any kind of fish is good after it's been frozen. No fish in my freezer. In Michigan we have a 14" minimum to keep. That rules out keeping some of the smaller ones. Bob

HE had fish in that bucket that were not legal to take home. Not to mention he had 4 rods in the water at the same time which you also cant do in PA. Its a quarry lake that we had to get permission from the company to fish. Im pretty sure he didnt and just hopped the fence without permission.

The one thing he did that you FOR SURE knew was wrong, you didn't mention until just now.
5dollarsplash Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Out of all the fish in most of our freshwaters, LMB has got to taste the worst (IMO). I wouldn't even consider taking bass to eat just because of that. Put me on a honey hole of Eyes and the fryers going to be going. I do like perch and crappie too. . That fits me to a T.

Literally not kidding they suck these waters dry. And this is Philadelphia theres not a ton of places with good size bass. Im not going to let them ruin all of them. They throw a crap load of rods in the water at once and keep every single thing they catch. And the cops? Te cops around here couldnt care less, they got better things to do than deal with fisherman. So its up to us. And technically its not public. Its on private land that me and my buddies had to ask permission to go onto. Its a quarry with 2 lakes on each side of the road. Theres no tresspassing, no swimming, no fishing signs everywhere. I had to go to the Eureka Stone Quarry main office up the road and ask the manager if we could fish it.

Wondering, do fish caught on private property need to conform to state size regulations. Where I live no state regulations that I'm aware of apply to private property or a body of water under 20 acres. 1
wademaster1 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 seems like to me you probably shoulda seen if he had permission in the first place; secondly even if he didnt then you still cant physically do anything to him about it without it bein assault, just because something is private and you have permission or because you don't like someone keeping fish that you wouldn't keep doesn't make you a game warden or an officer of the law; now if he's there illegally without permission then call the wildlife folks or police; they HAVE to respond to the call, it's their job to. Funny how this guys asks about catch and release and eating fish and it turns into something like this.
