Was at the beach this morning using a Mirrolure Poppa Dog, 2 trebs probably a #2. I'm taking a small fish off the hook when I see fish busting, so I toss my lure. I was so anxious I forgot to reel up the slack, I look at the rod and I see a broken 30# leader, turn around to look for the lure and it's in my calf just below the knee. Barb went all the in and I couldn't budge it backwards, I then manage to push it all the way thru and attempt cut the hook, wires cutters couldn't not make a dent. I pressed with all my might and barely squeezed the barb down, but not enough. Another fisherman came strolling by, bigger and stronger than me with better leverage and he pressed the barb down, still could not bend the hook but I was able to back it out. Operation successful and I'm fine, and the lure still looks like new.

Ouch!! Sounds like one of my buddies who was trying to tighten a knot on a crankbait with his teeth and line slipped and hook went into his lower lip pass the barb. We had to push it out and cut barb off like you said. We joked about it afterwards and died laughing bc for at least 30min he had a lure hanging from his lip bf we decided how to handle it. We told him he was the catch of the day!! LOL

Glad to hear things worked out and no serious injuries!! That's my worst fear is getting hooked pass the barb!!

OW! Glad to hear you're alright. My brother caught himself in the front of his neck on the back cast fly fishing one time. Fortunately it was a very very small hook on the fly so clipping it wasn't that big a deal. Still kinda wild to see that fuzzy fly stuck on his neck. I couldn't imagine getting stuck by a treble hook like that though.

Glad your ok. MirroLure makes some great baits, especially the Poppa Dog. We've been catching stripers and big bluefish for years on them.

I'm absolutely fine, no pain at all and I didn't even feel my leader break. Lucky it penetrated only muscle, just a drop of blood. I just love that Poppa Dog, it's been my mainstay top lure for years, my second favorite is their 20mr twitchbait.

I took a treble to the calf when I was about 8 or 9 and it really didn't hurt that bad either. Not nearly as bad as a hook in the finger or hand anyways. I did the same thing, pushed it out and pinched the barbs down. Mine was just a little original Rapala with a lot smaller hook though thankfully.

OUCH! The bad thing about backing the hook out is if the barg snags a tendon or something else on the way out. Fortunately you were able to smash it down far enough.

The saltwater trebles are made of harden steel it seems like
